A paranoid Marjorie Taylor Greene says she wants the U.S. government to shut down

She should give up her US citizenship and move to Russia so she can finally serve the country she’s loyal to.

Maybe, maybe not. What matters is that she’s actively trying to destroy it, though, I’d say. But then again, I doubt many people are really aware of everything the federal government does. It’s a big, vast, complicated, beast that’s really hard to come to terms with. A real day modern leviathan.

Here’s a great book she’ll never read: A Libertarian Walks Into a Bear, a nonfiction account about a town taken over and soon run into the ground by zealous zero-tax libertarians and other cartoon characters, which the large and intelligent bear population thinks is a fine idea with all the garbage piling up, no street lights at night, and some folks feeding them donuts out the back porch most days. As you might imagine, quality of living suffers compared to neighboring towns with incrementally higher tax rates but larger populations owing to the better local economy, public safety, services, and general responsiveness of local gov’t. All of which of course is evil until your own unfunded town hall is on fire and you have to call the neighboring town to help put it out. A fun read! How to say “I live in the South” without saying “I live in the South.”

I’ve heard a lot about what happened there, but that book is now on my GoodRead’s “to be read” list. (It’s not available at my library right now, but I see we have it available through Inter Library Loan, so I’ll request it when I finish my current books.) Thank you!

I’m at one of the DOE labs and, OMG, the groans were frequent and mighty when it came to Secretary Perry. The book “The Fifth Risk” is eye opening and more than a little terrifying. They sent oil-connected crew for the new term’s transition to the agency that owns the nation’s nuclear stockpile…

I can only imagine. I know how, as someone completely unconnected to and with only a cursory knowledge of the issues, I groaned at the whole thing. My frequent question about the Trump crew was, “How are adult human beings this ignorant, especially when they’re ostensibly educated adults?” The scary bit is that if Trump manages to get into office again, it won’t be any better - it’ll probably be significantly worse, as he’s alienated all the people who had even an iota of knowledge or competence. Trump would leave even more positions unfilled, while only filling any positions with ignorant lunatics.
