A round up of Trumpian events šŸ–•šŸŠšŸ¤”

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended Trumpā€™s decision to share the anti-Muslim videos during a press briefing on Thursday.

ā€œI think the president feels that bringing up important issues of our time like extreme violence and terrorism are important to do,ā€ Sanders said. ā€œAnd I think heā€™s going to continue to do that in a number of venues, whether itā€™s through speeches or Twitter or other social media platforms.ā€

She continued: ā€œI think what heā€™s done is elevate the conversation to talk about a real issue and threat.ā€

Nomiki on the verge of giving up on the Democrats:

If the Berniecrats jump ship, the Dems are done. Itā€™s at least half of the party.

The CorpDems could save the party by reforming, but theyā€™ll never do it. Their commitment to their own privilege is stronger than their objection to fascism.

So: new party. A Berniecrat takeover of the DSA, or something totally novel?

Priceless.

It was the World Cup Draw on Friday.

Russia couldnā€™t have got an easier group if they tried

My wish for the opener (Russia vs Saudi Arabia) is that the neutral fans make the Luzhniki Stadium a sea of rainbow flags and pro feminist banners to remind the world how shitty both countries are.

It takes a special talent to pack so much outrageous toxic thievery into a single bill. But they managed.

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader, assured him that there would be ā€œplenty of timeā€ to read the bill ā€” after it passed the chamber and headed to a conference committee with the House.

I think theyā€™re hoping that someone will make a connection between the political maneuverings associated with the affordable care act, and this bill.

Fat chance, you plutocrats!

Weā€™re still learning about the hundreds of handwritten GOP provisions snuck in. This is a worst case scenario.

People calling the crossover point between the Republicans and Democrats as moderate or the centre is actually worrying me now. In the past I just considered it inaccurate, but now it is normalising fascism.

If your moderates are in any way considering supporting fascism (no matter how mildly) then they arenā€™t moderate. If your political centre is right next to fascism then your political system is fucked up, hopefully not beyond repair.

Itā€™s becoming linguistically difficult; Iā€™ve been flicking between half a dozen alternate labels for the establishment Dems (thereā€™s one) because itā€™s tricky to find a label that accurately describes them but doesnā€™t shut down conversation.

DNC Democrats, Corporate Democrats, Right-wing Democrats, Authoritarian Liberalsā€¦those all draw objection or create confusion in at least some circumstances, providing an easy deflection from the substance of whatever was being discussed.

Ditto for ideologically-focused language; ā€œcentristā€ or ā€œmoderateā€ have very different meanings depending upon where you stand (e.g. to me, Bernie is a moderate centrist). And ā€œliberalā€ just adds to the confusion when dealing with folks who still think that liberal = left.

If I were not restraining my language for the sake of diplomacy, ā€œQuislingā€ would come up a lot more often.
