His character in that scene can. He (correctly) insists upon shaving garlic with a razor blade. Crushing garlic releases more of the sulphur compounds and results in a stronger garlic flavor. Slicing with minimum trauma to the “meat” of the clove yields a sweeter result in the sauce.

I’m not a fan of Mr. Weinstein and his behavior but I don’t think vigilante justice is the appropriate choice of action (ever).

It’s his daughter. He found out about the harassment and career tanking along with the rest of the world, his reaction and comments would be something i would expect from any loving parent. It’s not like he actually is planning on killing the guy, he does correct himself at the end that he’d like to smack him around a bit and nothing more.
