Actually, James Comey is not your homie

I question how far to the left you are when you respond to institutional criticism of the FBI with ‘PETA are assholes’ and ‘Someone please think of the logging industry’.

You should probably research a bit; green anarchists are in vehement opposition to the left. I don’t think you’re a leftist either, you sound aggressively centrist.

Been on this internet for a long time, have you?

Lordy, I hope there are logs.

Not a homie, whatever that means these days, but surely have us a meme to hopefully stay.

Reminder:

The Hague should be a very crowded place.

The enemy of my enemy may not be my friend, but he can still be a useful tool.

News flash, the left moved left when you were getting old. Yeah, there was acceptable radicalism before, but that got more radical in your dotage, and the media coverage is all more accurate too, yeah, that’s what must have happened…

Yeah, but to whom? I say nay.

It happens.

No, I specifically referred to groups like ELF that have caused large fires like the UW one, not just ‘handwringers’. Accusing me of strawmanning by strawmanning is pretty meta though.

Yeah Reddit has The_Donald and a few other places, but by and large it’s populated by young americans who lean left. Places like LateStageCapitalism or other subreddits are firmly far left and most of the rest lean left too (which, yeah I’m on board with, but can still recognize as a pattern.)

You’re probably right, I’m not as familiar with them as I’d like. I’ll accept being wrong I guess.

The current political climate is pretty hard to find oneself as anything though. I’ve always thought of myself as pretty far left, but…maybe centrist is a better term. Definitely a difficult political climate to try and make placing decisions in.

The US Overton Window has widened considerably over the last year.

By millenial (and historical/global standards), Bernie is a centrist Social Democrat. The establishment Dems are centre-right Liberals, the GOP are Fascists.

Most of the young lefties I talk to are now revolutionary socialists. Which is fortunate for America, as socialists have historically provided the most effective resistance to fascism.

I was actually accusing you of whataboutism, not strawmanning. I get the confusion, though. Usually this technique is used to excuse the actions of one side by whining about the actions of the other side. The sides have to be at least nominally balanced, though. So, a century worth of Hoover vs. a couple of fires doesn’t really cut it, rhetorically speaking.

I suggest adsing some international perspective, if you dare. French, for example. You may also try German, Ireland, Switzerland, UK, Australia, Austria. As far as I remember, all those cultural contexts are present on this BBS. African countries might be particularly interesting: how does a Nigerian or someone from Niger judge your political position?

Might be fun.
Or not.
Up to you.

Is that your view from down under? Would you place Theresa May, Angela Merkel and maybe Victor Orban for me, for reference?

Pretty much.

Bernie is just barely left of centre (roughly on par with the Australian Labor Party); the establishment Dems are centre-right to right (similar to the Liberal Party of Australia); the GOP are a mix of “normal” far right (the closest equivalent here would be the One Nation Party) and actual fascists (previously of negligible significance here, now on the rise thanks to US influence; Oz politics tends to follow American trends).

I don’t follow European politics closely enough for precision, but as I understand it those three are right, centre-right and fascist.
