I had a dog come and sit next to me in the park the other week. She looked at me with that pleading look all dogs have in their armoury. So I called the number on her collar and got a distraught owner, it took some time to get through to her that her dog was safe and sitting next to me.

The reunion was joyous.

I had just walked these guys around our local wilderness park - that used to be a couple of reservoirs - when they saw a rabbit. And that was the last of them I saw for a full half hour. They still do the “so glad to see you” bit when they come back but it is not convincing.
