After being harassed by Marjorie Taylor Green, Cori Bush moves her office out of safety concerns

They should not have cleaned the place up until after the plotters were expelled and Trump was convicted in the Senate. The Republican caucus should be walking past broken windows, stepping around shards of glass on the floor, looking at shit-stained walls, when they vote that everything is fine.

Congress always exempts itself from laws like that. The bastards.

His defense was based on clinical depression leading to diminished capacity. Given that he killed himself shortly after his release, there is some reason to believe in hindsight that this defense was not entirely without some nugget of truth.

What we’re missing, of course, is a way to find legal machinery for this kind of thing that properly balances compassion and society’s need for closure. Or, better, a way to recognize and prevent this kind of behavior in the first place. Which brings us back to Greene[sic].

If only Sumner’s portrait (oil painting, central background of picture) would have come to life and made (ok ok supernatural) history once more, with that insurrectiony confederate flagwaver.

Wasn’t this the case that launched the “Twinky defense?” Or am I misremembering?

Yes, White was the Twinkie guy. That part of the defense was BS, but there is little doubt that he had serious clinical depression. (Of course, it isn’t ‘manly’ to get treated for that, otherwise the murders might have been prevented in the first place.)

The “Twinkie Defense” itself is often mischaracterized (the defense used the normally health-food eating White’s recent newfound junk food habit as evidence of a changed mental state rather than the cause of it) but there’s no denying it was a weaksauce argument against holding a man fully accountable for a premeditated double murder.

It was clear to many then and now that the jury was looking for an excuse to let White off with a relative slap on the wrist because one of the people he killed was an outspoken LGBT activist.

I think it would be more appropriate to start referring to the overly privileged nutjobs as “Marjories” and retire the use of “Karens”

Edit: On second thought, a “Marjorie” is on a whole different scale from a mere “Karen”. A “Karen” may scream an yell, but they don’t actually bring in assassins and actually try to murder you.
