In the hands of rich people, bankruptcy is just a tool to avoid having to pay what they owe.

I’m not sure how well this is going to work out for him.* Bankruptcy courts are pretty good at finding hidden assets and sussing out suspicious transfers of wealth

ETA: I personally hope he gets a judge who will root out every penny he transferred in the last decade and every hidden account. Then make the companies claw it all back to pay every creditor, beginning with the Sandy Hook judgement

At least he’s finally matching his financial situation to his moral one.

I’ll bet he declared it like Michael Scott did.

“Infowars says in the filing that it has assets of $0 to $50,000“

It’ll be interesting to see where his tried to hide it all. Hopefully so fraudulently that they can pierce the corporate veil and go after him personally.

Perhaps the bankruptcy courts can assign a dollar value to the “Infowars” brand and give it to the Sandy Hook families so they can shred it and put it where it belongs, at the bottom of an active cesspit.

I recall from the John Oliver bit that it is wholly routine for him to plea to his listeners that he is nearly destitute and only purchases of his quack nostrums will ensure his continued survival?

I’m totally on board with a transfer of wealth from shitty idiots → hatemonger → Sandy Hook victims

Isn’t this the same approach tried by the Sackler family to avoid paying out to their opiate victims? Didn’t work for them either, as I recall.

They owe what they owe; unfuck them.

I hope this scum bag doesn’t get away with this. It’s clearly a tactic to avoid paying, so I hope they see it for what it is.

it worked for them. they’re protected from personal liability, they’re still wildly wealthy - much of it derived from the drugs they dealt - and they’ll never ever spend a day in jail

I thought the Sackler deal was overturned in court?

The linked article incorrectly states that Jones was ordered to be refunded for the fines he had to pay for failing to sit for his deposition:

Separately, a judge has ruled that Jones get back $75,000 in fines he paid to a Connecticut court for failing to appear at a deposition last month in a lawsuit over his assertions that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a hoax.

The article linked from that quote merely says:

The deposition was held at the Bridgeport office of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder. After it ended Wednesday, Pattis filed a court document asking Bellis to return to Jones the $75,000 in fees he paid, which the judge said he could request only after sitting for questioning. Bellis did not immediately rule.

Crappy articles.
