All Cops Are Buttheads

I shudder to think what the track record of the campus police might be…

“To be presented with a flier that says that you’re dropping your kids off in a dangerous place must have been really upsetting for some of the families,” Mr. Elicker said.

…since too many colleges have a long history of under-reporting crimes that might affect recruitment, donations, or the image presented to parents/the community. Families should be advised to check the statistics on their own and never just rely on information from groups paid by the institution. It’s no wonder students are trying to defund campus police, too.

It was definitely one of the things I looked for with every one of the schools my girls seriously considered.

If citizens like Rosales must obey the law, then the officers who police them must obey the Constitution

One would think this would be self-evident. Apparently, it was not. Of course, that gets into “protect but not bind…” which seems to be to most important principle our courts recognize.

There’s another dimension to that, of course. Cops who think they obey the Constitution, but do not.

That response from the Kansas AG is almost like they are asking for a consent decree.

I’m leaning more towards dissolution than a consent decree.

Yeah, but legally a consent decree is step one for federal intervention. And if Chicago PD has survived this long, KHP isn’t likely to be dissolved any time soon.

Once the deputy arrived on the scene and discovered the two vehicles, one of them fled, the attorney general’s office said.
The OCSO deputy fired his gun as the other vehicle drove away, according to the attorney general’s office. Shelley said the vehicle had attempted to run the deputy over.

Yeah, I think I’ve heard this song before.

The boy is accused of killing his mother last November, when he was just 10 years old, according to court records.
The boy is charged with first-degree intentional homicide. The district attorney’s office is seeking to try him as an adult. The court has ordered that the boy’s name not be revealed because he may still be tried as a child.

“Someone is going to hear this and say: ‘Another officer gets off,’” Kerns said. “That’s not the facts of this case.”

He ordered Steinke to perform 100 hours of community service. And if she violates the terms of her probation, “I will harken back to my original gut response as to how to address sentencing,” Kerns warned.

In summary…
