Itâs sad to consider the consequences for kids in a system where LEOs treat minors like adults, in terms of education (or the lack of it), safety/security, and mental health:
Maybe getting better at this? Maybe?
All the cops who were there and did nothing and then didnât report it should be charged too. At least fired
Obvious at the time.
DARE America representatives did not see it that way. They were especially cutthroat when it came to suggestions that the organization turned kids into informants. DARE spokeswoman Roberta Silverman defended DARE from accusations that the program taught children to spy on their parents. When faced with stories of kids alerting their DARE officers to their parentsâ drug use, she told reporters that âWhen students begin the DARE program they are specifically advised not [to] talk about their parents or friends. We are very clear that when DARE instructors are in the classroom, they are there as teachers, not as law enforcement officers.â However, in stating that âany time a child makes a disclosure [of parental drug use] to an officer, the DARE officer would be required like any other teacher to report that to the proper authorities or agencies,â Silverman revealed the ways DARE made schools into an extension of the police project.
But during this same period, werenât Americans encouraged to believe that Morozovâs betrayal was an example of how the âevil empireâ destroys families?
â. In 1932, Pavlik Morozov, a fourteen-year old peasant lad was murdered allegedly in revenge for having denounced his father as a kulak who had hoarded grain. His murder resulted in a show trial in the Morozovsâ village, Gerasimovka, in Sverdlovsk oblast. Pavlik was lauded as a Soviet hero â by, among others, Maksim Gorky at the Soviet Writersâ Congress in 1934 â and adopted by the Pioneers as their patron saintâ
BBC News - Russia police crisis: Burned out, disappointed and demoralised
Interesting differences described here:
Russia has one of the largest police forces in the world, employing over 900,000 officers to serve a population of 146 million, according to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. It has nearly 630 officers per 100,000 people - more than double the US or the UK.
Here weâre also dealing with laziness, cruelty, cowardice, and cops killing people instead of arresting them. However, they are well paid here with better equipment and benefits than most working people get. Iâm looking forward to seeing their pay, hours, and pensions getting more scrutiny in the same manner conservatives did with teachers. Teachers were not/are not compensated enough for all they do, while the public is paying for too many cops who donât do their jobs well (or at all).
Unfortunately, here some cops quit to become prison guards, work retail and private security, get campus jobs, or retire after claiming disability benefits.
What is a moral panic?
Well, it is a narcotic. As such, it would do the things mentioned, including disinhibition and decreased sensation of injury. Getting stoned and doing stupid things has a long history, so maybe?
The victim âasked the officers multiple times to put on facemasks and even called 911 seeking the assistance of [a] supervisor,â the Manhattan district attorneyâs office said in a statement. âThe officers refused to do so.â
God, what an asshole.
Every time we hear about LGBTQ folks âgroomingâ kids, we need to remind folks that cops, pastors, priests and politicians are far more likely to abuse their child than any trans or gay person is. And this is way too close to home for me!
