Isnā€™t that more You Will Die a Righteous Death face? Am I not really excited to see her story arc? Is this Questions, or has OtherMichael conditioned me?

Oh snap! That might be a better ticket than Sanders/Warren I was hoping for.

Mine is typically bemused resting faceā€¦

If ya just sit there with a perma-smile, Iā€™m probably gonna call you Ralphieā€¦

Which isnā€™t a bad thing, 'cause I love Ralphies.

However, please donā€™t call me out for RBF if I look like this whenever I am around you.

Why do you think that is? Itā€™s a reference to a female dog, in a negative way? What do you think?

I just came up with that today, talking to my advisor about my dissertation, and we started chatting about the Iowa results and then Ta-Nehisi Coatesā€™ critique of Sanderā€™s and Killer Mikeā€™s defenseā€¦ and heā€™s perfect - has political aspirations, heā€™s from a different part of the country, he supports Sanderā€™s economic policyā€¦ Yeah. I love this idea the more I think about itā€¦ maybe I should write a blog about it?

Iā€™ll be honest, here. Iā€™m more ā€œSad Danny DeVitoā€. With more hair.

Well if Sanders does manage to beat out Clinton, itā€™s not like Clinton will want to be his VP, and the other choice floating around was Oā€™Malley. It seems like kind of a step backwards to go from having the first black president only to return to two old white dudes.

I am just guessing here, and using my own experience.

A cheap, vestigal insult that happens to roll off the palate in a pleasing way (similar to fuck, feck, arse, and bleee-atch) that we all know isnā€™t right. It isnā€™t meant to impugn the group it refers to, but it does.

I blame it on laziness, and lack of vision when it comes to insults. I am also guilty. And I think language, thoughts, and actions can changeā€“even while we can still sling verbal arrows at each other :slightly_smiling:

My goodness that resonates with me. Why in the ever loving fuck strangers think itā€™s ok to tell me to smile if I donā€™t look ā€œhappy enoughā€ to them is a mystery to me

It just makes me want to punch someone.

Honest question. Why is ā€œresting bitch faceā€ even a thing? Iā€™ve seen this become more prevalent on the internets lately and I donā€™t understand why.

Am I just becoming too old for the internet?

Apparently women with RBF are better communicators, although a lot of that has to do with being constantly reminded of how your apparent mood doesnā€™t match your internal one (at which point, I imagine many women continue with the same expression but with their internal mood now in alignment).

Research has shown that people rely heavily on facial expressions and body language. Psychologist Albert Mehrabian, of the University of California, Los Angeles, conducted famous studies in the 1960s that found that interpreting someoneā€™s communication is based mostly on nonverbal cues, like facial expression, body language and tone. Women confronted by a world that automatically attaches negative attributes to their non-smiling face must quickly learn how to communicate and also hone a finely-tuned awareness of both our own emotions and the emotions of those around us.

We must also quickly develop a strong sense of self-awareness. This self-awareness allows you to adapt quickly in volatile or unfamiliar situationsā€”an invaluable trait when presenting before a room full or strangers or superiors, for example.

And then thereā€™s the empathy factor. Women used to being constantly misunderstood focus more on the words someone says, rather than their tone, body cues, or facial expressions, ensuring a more effective flow of information between both parties.

Having been told off for my RBF as a guy a few times though, itā€™s a lot less evident if people let you get to where youā€™re going without expecting you to have your friendly face on all the time. Thatā€™s when Iā€™m usually lost in my thoughts and recharging, so letting me do that gives everyone a more pleasant experience in the end.

I like BBS because many threads are eye-opening* - quite literally, I observed consciously the facial expressions of my fellow social animals around me. Most of them at work (f/m ratio of about 60/40, wide range of ages between 16 (apprentices) and 60+ (last working years before retirement), about 800 persons, so we donā€™t really know each other).

No one here smiles all the time (or stares angry or shows another extreme [for lack of a better word] emotion), the normal expression is relaxed.

And this is the Default Face hereabout, no qualifier needed, strike the sour - and I donā€™t expect something different, this is simply part of life, be it at work or walking in the streets or visiting a pub. People show emotions when they are warranted [not the word Iā€™m looking for, but whatever], but they are not some kind of 24/7 cloak.

But then I live in Germany, and weā€™re infamous for our rude and unfriendly coldness.

*) the strategic butt-covering thread is to blame that I look more at bumsā€¦

If the screen printing isnā€™t an iron-on made of glitter, it isnā€™t an 80ā€™s t-shirt.

So says this oldz.

@onemanmob: If it reassures you at all, you have matured very well over the last year-ish of commenting here. Props, youā€™re doing great!
