American-born Muslim harassed in line at supermarket: "I wish they didn't let you in the country"

Same here. I have that Upper Midwest upbringing. Never interrupt, never tell people “no” or “I disagree”, listen patiently, etc. But sometimes it breaks, and oh boy does it ever break.

I think the issue is more that I’m what is considered far-left in the US (or centrist in Europe), but I don’t at all look like a trustafarian. Whatever people think a liberal looks like, it’s apparently not me.

I’m not sure who these people are, but they eat foreign food and then have the nerve to talk about other cultures not assimilating. I’ve come across this many times. It would be one thing if all they ate was Watergate salad and tuna-noodle casserole,* but apparently nationalists like Mexican and Chinese food just like the rest of us

*serves them right, too

My lasting memory of that particular TJ’s is kids (presumably, on a school day) lying down in the bottom rack of the shopping cart with arms and legs splayed out on either side. I haven’t been to that store since I worked in Reston, though.

I lived in MD for 16 years. It’s def. no better, and far northwestern MD is where I saw my first obviously historically segregated community that is clearly not any different than it was 100+ years ago.

Cognitive dissonance. It also allows them to bitch about govt. spending and how horrible Congress is, yet constantly vote for their rep. repeatedly and scream when they don’t get their Social Security/Medicare/etc. check and that “there oughta be a law” for something they don’t like.

And don’t forget, the people complaining about him being an atheist were simultaneously furious at the fact he was a regular member of the congregation at a black Christian church.

They called him an atheist, a Muslim, and a member of a radical black church all at the same time

Any hook to hang their hate on.

my whole thing about the whole “obama is a seekrit muslim!!” thing is: SO WHAT IF HE IS/WAS? it’s not like there’s anything anywhere that says that we couldn’t have a muslim (or jewish, or buddhist, or zoroastrian, or pastafarian etc etc) president in the first place. it’s all just coded “but but but he’s NOT WHITE” racist bullshit.

I would be fairly surprised. I would also be a little disappointed. As much as I’d like to see an atheist in the Oval Office, I want it to be because the vicious irrational hate of atheists changes to understanding and acceptance, not because the atheist hid their beliefs to obtain support. I had many points of dispute with the Obama administration, but at least he’s a man of decent integrity, and I wouldn’t want the first atheist POTUS to lack that quality since he or she will be, for better or worse, representing atheists to the world.

I do think he’s a humanist, but I don’t think he’s an atheist. I could be wrong.

Sounds familiar … I was just thinking “Where is Michele Bachmann??” and ran across the following:

"According to Bachmann, Trump’s opponents are rebelling against God to bring about “the creation of a manmade, one-world system. And scripture tells us that in the End Times, that is what Antichrist will be, he will be a part of a one-world system.”

“There are people who reject Judeo-Christian truth and instead want to insert and usurp control of all of our lives with a global, economic and political government.”

Never mind the word “globalism” appearing in exactly 0 places in the Bible, Old or New Testament so it is a weak reed to grasp, appealing to the Bible in opposition to something the Bible doesn’t mention.

Conservative Christians, of course, have long promoted their own one-world system. They have done so in this country for better than 200 years and in complete contradiction to and violation of the United States Constitution."

Scary as alt-right shoppers.

Videos like this upset me far more than the loud mouth rantings of Alex Jones and his ilk but then I realize this garbage probably developed her twisted opinions while listening to people like Jones. Shine a light on these cockroaches.

What a repugnant jerk.

They mean (((globalism))) which certainly appears in the New Testament.
