Jesus reserved his anger for one thing: religious hypocrisy. Evangelicals are the Pharisees of today, praying loudly in public, stoning sinners when they themselves are guilty of the same sins, cozying up to the powerful in order to get their way politically, and on and on. That most of them are blind to this has been a never-ending source of amazement to me for decades.

Oh, the various right-wing novels and movies about the Anti-Christ involves him being followed by (usually explicitly) leftist Christians, rather ironically. I’ve read, from multiple sources, that the Christian left is the Christian right’s most hated group (but also one they try to ignore the existence of, whenever possible). For example, I understand they have right-wing Christian romances involving “saving” the most despicable people, such as actual Nazis, and other hated groups, like non-Christians, but left-wing Christians never appear in those stories - that, apparently, is too disturbing. I rather suspect it’s because right-wingers, on some level, recognize that the left is far closer to the Biblical Jesus than they are.
