Yeah, that’s fucked. We have a parasitic middleman leveraging their gatekeeping power on which meds make the formulary to squeeze as much juice from the patients and the manufacturers as possible. If a med is not on the formulary then insurance doesn’t pay, affiliated pharmacies don’t carry it, and the patient is hosed.
Why not just transparently negotiate prices an let the doctors and patients balance the cost/benefit to pick the best option for them? Because there are profits to be made and PBMs and insurers are accountable only to the investor class.
