Ahhhh. Sorry, I represent the fuzzy/illogical side of the boingboing coin. I never get the programmer jokes.
I actually find most â_____ rightsâ organisations whiny and annoying. Not because of their goals, but the fact that they feel everything else should be put on the back-burner until whatever the issue is is fixed. Many things need to change but a large number of people on this planet donât have access to clean drinking water or more than 1 meal per day so I hope theyâll forgive me for thinking their problems are meh.
This is not to say I think we should continue with the status quo or ignore cases of sexism, racism or discrimination. Just call out those moments when they happen and make the perpetrators wish theyâd never been such assholes.
She just needs to get remarried. I know the PERFECT guy for her.
Your refusal to grapple with and understand that simple cartoon is . . . sadly typical.
HmmmmâŚ
Yep, right there, you nailed it.
I believe you have forgotten what Rule 34 is if youâre surprised that porn of something exists, because the rule is âif it exists, there is porn of itâ. Really, itâs just Rule 34 is always right.
To everyone else, just chill the hell out. Everyone is getting fucked over by the ultra rich, it doesnât matter what gender, skin color, religion, etc you are.
I think she was just saying âDoes anyone know where my PEN IS?â and they misunderstood.
BTW Iâm pretty sure she got her pen at Pen Island, check out their website: penisland.net
Okay, youâre right. Letâs talk about classism instead of sexism:
I was pointing out we all have something in common. Maybe we donât.
while i wouldnât go so far as to say that youâre creating a fire hazard with it, i would still say youâre setting up a lot of straw men. to me the most important understanding to take away from the scalzi piece is that being a white male in our society brings with it many advantages. having an advantage does not equal guaranteed success but it still gives one an easier time of things than otherwise. regardless of inherent privilege it is still possible to oppress members of the privileged class. the distortions imposed on men due to our patriarchal heritage is considered a form of oppression in some feminist theory so i donât think you would see unanimous agreement that men canât be oppressed.

Yes, and I agree with that understanding. Thatâs what I said in my post if you read it. It is a trivial observation. Some people still havenât made it yet, so its probably good Scalzi wrote the piece.
setting up a lot of straw men
And you say that from your extensive experience with online feminist and social justice communities?
regardless of inherent privilege it is still possible to oppress members of the privileged class
This tells me youâre not too familiar with the concepts of privilege and oppression as used by the SJ crowd. A member of a privileged class can by definition not be oppressed, at least not along the same axis of oppression. For example, a black man is oppressed because he is black and privileged because he is a man (thatâs called intersectionality), but he cannot be oppressed as a man because men are a privileged group. Have a read through this if you want to âeducateâ yourself
If youâd asked me 5 minutes ago what âMission Hillâ, was, I would have stared at you blankly. Then I watched that clip, and discovered that I apparently watched it religiously many, many years ago.
Thatâs kind of freaked me out.
Fair sure the worst of the bunch isnât indicative of the whole. Personally, I think the word âoppressionâ is a bit strong for some peopleâs situations. Itâs bandied about like the word âhateâ to the point the severity of the word is lessened.
Oh yeah, theyâre going strong. Theyâve even got a comic that stars a gay teenager, Kevin Keller. Who gets married in some alternate universe Archie Comics!
Thatâs what really blows my mind, that Archie Comics apparently has its own multiverse.
One could definitely say that you had been forewarned, but people are often forced to make less than ideal choices. Given the job market in the past 5 years or so, one could argue that a âpenisâ looking only to be able to make mortgage payments or rent to keep his loved ones off the street has no choice but to put up with harassment.
Just because itâs men being abused doesnât somehow make it any less horrible than if it were about women being abused.
Or one could argue that all the aforementioned social injustices are targets for ALL people, regardless of gender, to fight against. Forcing people to take sides in some sort of âUs vs Themâ gender wars based on history and current social norms is not at all productive.
hmmmm not to provide any excuses here, but doesnât penies sounds like pennies?
âSilberkleit contends that the case should be tossed out because white males are not âa protected class.ââ
Silberkleit needs to hire a lawyer and stop defending herself. OR, if she has a lawyer and thatâs what theyâre going with, she should fire them and find someone remotely competent. OR, if thatâs not her legal position, she should probably just shut the fuck up.
âSome of the details about the case are simply ridiculous, bringing bikers to work to scare the employees?â
Stranger stuff has happened.
This Silberkleit has balls. I like balls.
No wait!
