As Kevin McCarthy fails yet again today, SC Congressman admits: "We don't have an exit strategy"

The 5th vote just got started and Donalds already has 5 votes. Looks like they may be at this for quite some time.

Here’s the live tracker:

If McCarthy bows out, there is no one the Freedom Caucus could endorse that will win enough votes to hit 218, making it much more likely for more votes for Present - which would lower the bar for Jeffries. Interesting.

I’m concerned about House Dems watching this unfold. Do they need popcorn? Junior Mints? 3D glasses? Hoping they are holding out ok

How many Democratic representatives need to vote “Present” or walk out of the chamber for Jeffries to win the gavel?

None. We need 6 Republicans to do so.

Thanks, that explains why my brilliant idea hasn’t been tried yet.

It would have been hilarious if they’d followed through on the pledge and actually learned what the Constitution says.

A date that will surely expose which ones aren’t in it for the money (yet). :woman_shrugging:t4:

Are they not allowed to leave the house until they pick someone? Is this like gambling democracy on a game of “Touch The Car”?

The one thing the GOP has proven itself adept at is grinding the federal government to a halt.

There was a motion to adjourn for the day, but that couldn’t get the votes either.

SC Congressman admits: “We don’t have an exit strategy”

Not so much an admission, as a boast.

Just watched some comments from Donalds… wow, what a joke. Among other things, when pressed on what happens if there’s a national emergency with the House not functioning, he said he’s not worried because (paraphrasing) “Biden can take care of that.” ! wow must be a nice luxury to have a president you can be confident in to have your back while you play your dumb games.

At least it’s not a presidential election year, with the House having to vote on state elector slates. (I assume the clerk would handle that?)

Someone needs to spread it around some of the more gullible GOP congress folks that they need to switch their votes to “present” in order to get McCarthy to move and/or get concessions they desire. If we can get enough of them to stupidly do that like that one woman has started to do, it lowers the threshold to win, and Jeffries takes the seat.

I know, I know… it’s just dumb enough to work.

Nope, voting “Present” means they don’t count towards the total. With the one GOP rep voting Present, the margin is currently 217.

Get six of them dumb enough to try this, and Jeffries wins and the GOP will literally implode in anger.

I noticed that on the last two votes Spartz stayed silent the first time they called her name then voted “present” only after the clerk made a final call for all the members who didn’t respond the first time. I wonder if she wanted to exercise the option of voting “present” only after knowing for sure that it would not have the result of getting Jeffries elected.

Yeah, I’m sure they’ve all been carefully schooled on what the process is and what voting “present” might lead to. Still and all, it’s nice to fantasize that their incompetence comes back to bite them in the ass one more time.
