That makes sense. Not only is the world of bowling coaching rife with Dostoevskian intrigues and interrelationships, the inherent jealousies rival that of brain surgeons and rock stars.
Sure. Who gives a shit about the shitty way yet another man treated his wife and took advantage of his position over a young woman. After all, all that matters is we all laugh because BOWLING… /s
FFS.
Yeah, amazing right? TIL…
Yes. It requires physical skill and proficiency. It’s a sport, so its participants are athletes. Also, that’s not a slight tangent. You just took an off ramp away from the fucking point of the story.
I was thinking 'wow 5 comments and no Walter? Then I scrolled down a bit and baboom!
Up here in the socialist dystopian hellscape that is Canada, there are very clear rules and laws about the inappropriateness of relationships between coach and player at any age. There is a course that pretty much every coach in the country has to go through.
Doesn’t stop the creeps, but it makes damn sure they don’t have sleazy loopholes.
Or his search for a new job…
Yuck. I hate this how people conflate “morality” with “legality,” as if, “if I didn’t break any laws, I didn’t do anything wrong.”
You did something wrong, asshole. Just face it.
His soon-to-be-ex wife is likely going to take his balls in the divorce. She may also get his bowling equipment.
Even with his second place finishes.
This had me wondering what he’s been teaching their kids. With all the press, it’s hard to imagine they won’t be exposed to all the sordid details - including their father’s comments.
I wonder if a coach from one of the money making sports leaned on the administration to not enforce that policy, for the worst possible reasons.
What sort of school has a bowling coach? sports out of control over there.
Yeah, I knew college sports were a bizzarely huge thing in America, but having a bowling programme with multiple paid staff is not something I’d ever heard of or expected.
Don’t think I don’t see what you did there, Melizmatic. Clever, clever.
Hell, we’ve got some colleges with bass fishing teams and coaches. America believes in two things: money; and the power of making anything into a sport (so you can make money).
The school in question had no such policy. That was my point. I was comparing that to the big university in the same system that does have a policy.
What rubs me the wrong way most is the whining about “having to do other other stuff on top of taking care of the kids”.
Yeah, asshole, that’s what it’s still like for basically half of humanity. And most of them don’t even have the option to politely decline the opportunity.
Once again, it would not matter if this was some other “more real” sport (as defined by manly men, I supposed) or an academic department, or in another profession. The ACTUAL thing that ACTUALLY matters here is what this guy did, which was use his position over a younger woman to take advantage of her because of his own insecurities… it’s a problem of toxic masculinity, and the fact that so many men in our society would do the same shit.
