Plant a tree. Be kind. Make the world better in small things. These are perennial – the others can interfere or aid, but these are the ones that matter.
If you want to be more direct, give some money to one of the countless charities that actually work year in and year out to reduce suffering in the world. Food banks. Médecins Sans Frontières. Maybe Hadassah. If you like, do it in the name of the victims of this mishegas.
If you have time, volunteer. There is always vastly more need for volunteers than there are volunteers, and it can be incredibly rewarding. If you have children, it sets an example that lasts longer than any words you can say.
If nothing else, donate blood.

I see only one mention of gun control in this entire topic. Discouraging as it leaves us to fall back to hate control. Good luck with that.
