At least 3 women were kicked out of a bar for confronting Harvey Weinstein

You don’t think he poses a credible threat to women because his dick wasn’t out at that exact moment?

That’s a POS way of thinking, and I’m glad those people were there to challenge him to try to get him away causing further harm.

You are the one counselling recklessness. You are the one counselling greater risk of credible harm.

So, what you are saying is: If there is a person currently not doing anything illegal, but you suspect he is a general danger to the public, even though the question of danger to the public was brought to a court and decided against, you are still free to take measures into your own hand.

That is wrong.

Should you ever by accused yourself, you may then notice that what you call a “pedestal” now is the foundation of civilization.

No.

You are saying that you don’t have to believe women until a court agrees with them. That is technically and legally true, but it makes you an asshole.

Other people, thankfully, believe credible accusations without waiting for the cops. Nothing people did was outside of “Alerting people in a public venue to the existence of a credible threat.”

That doesn’t mean all people should be called a rapist in all situations. This situation? You sound like an idiot saying no one should have complained.

True. And there is a term for that.

However, once words like “asshole” and “idiot” replace arguments, it is time to end the discussion.

Cheers.

You believe things and people, about matters trivial or serious, without recourse to the courts every day of your life.

Did I not make arguments? Or are you saying that social disapproval would be effective in making a person with credible accusations of rape feel uncomfortable in a private venue filled with the kind of people he is credibly accused of harming?

You have come out of dormancy after over a year to post fifteen count em fifteen messages in this thread, all white knighting for Weinstein.

Methinks somebody has a “false” rape allegation in his past, no?

It’s not the words that ended that discussion, it’s that you had no credible response to either statement (both true, by the way) that used them beyond saying those words were uncivil.

Civility is obviously as important to you as it was to Weinstein’s fellow powerful players in his film industry milieux who didn’t call him out on his alleged serial rapey behaviour for decades (basically, he was a “missing stair”). So, as you exit this discussion, your complimentary set of pearls will be handed to you on the way out, along with a coupon for a discount on the fainting couch of your choice from Wayfair.

None of can decide that. It already either happened or not. Each of us individuals can decide whether or not we believe the person did the thing, using whatever criteria we see fit.

To say that we must defer our judgement to the courts is to say that it was right that Dred Scott was not freed because that’s the way the court ruled or that the internment by the U.S. government of citizens of Japanese descent was a-okay because a court said so.

Please. This is not a “mob”. Our actions in this world have consequences, which can include being called out for, you know, raping people. You got a problem with that? Tough shit.

No, what you’re demanding is that women are quiet and docile. Fuck that.

Rape is wrong. Using one’s position of power to coerce people to sleep with you is wrong. Covering up a crime, using spies, is wrong. Shouting at someone who has committed a bunch of horrible violent crimes IS A NATURAL FUCKING HUMAN REACTION.

The “penalty” that was being asked of Weinstein so “unjustly” was to LEAVE THE BAR.

Three women actually suffered that “unjust” punishment without a single trial!

Why would anybody argue against throwing Weinstein out for being an admitted sexual assaulter, and have no problem that the women were thrown out?

That shows that it’s not the principle, but that someone thinks Weinstein is more deserving of that principle.

I’m a civil engineer. I can tell a foundation from a pedestal.

FINALLY, some actual civility. Thank you (and thank you for your work).

Do you enjoy others deciding for you if something should upset you and how you should react to it? I wager not. The answer to that question is self-evident.

This topic has turned from ”discuss the issue” to ”debate one user”, which is wholly counterproductive.
