Attempted Coup in the United States: Tracking Investigations and Fallout

Wow. I deliberately haven’t watched many of the videos from the 6th (not even much of the mainstream coverage here in the UK), simply because the facepalm is too strong.

But browsing a few faces and watching the associated clips on the Faces of the Riot site… holy crap. One shows a stream of ‘gentlemen’ exiting the capitol, 'USA’ing and high fiving and all I’m thinking as I count them out is “you’re going to jail… you’re going to jail… you’re going to jail… and oh, even you with the full face mask will be going to jail, because you have your cellphone turned on!” Opsec? they’ve heard of it…

As has been said here many times, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Meh. I’m kinda bummed I used my last “free article” to read that.
Summary: the new occupants take standard COVID-19 precautions and quietly set about doing their jobs.
I thought there’d be more about the mess left behind to clean up. Which also would’ve been a waste of my last free article for the month, but at least a little more entertaining, in that gory horror film way.

I read it in the context of this observation, which I should have linked:

And I think the feebleness of journalism’s response, certainly not the intended point of the article, is illuminating…

And here I was told that “zip tie guy” was just an innocent law-abiding citizen trying his best to keep his mom out of trouble.

Pity that the DoJ is apparently now considering letting a bunch of them off without charges. “UGH! Do you have any idea how much paperwork would be involved if we charged every single person who broke into the Capitol building as part of a bloody attempted coup?”

I can’t like that.

DC processes more parking tickets on any given day.

If these were people of color EVERY ONE OF THEM would had been charged, sentenced and locked up. And then some.

felony rioting was the charge given to dc black lives matter protestors. not to mention that the feds have usurped local law enforcement decisions in oregon to charge protestors on questionable evidence

I’m wondering if “Coup Rioters and Enablers On The Run” should have its own thread.

Were those previous presidents charged with impeachment while still in office John? No? Then you and your strawman can sit down and STFU.

I’m OK with impeaching every living president except for Jimmy. Ya can’t threaten me with something I want, Johnny boy.

They could impeach Al Gore and Hillary Clinton for what they would have done

They literally would if they could. Death penalty too. Fuck it, why not?

Extremely real talk:

“If it is a good idea to impeach and try former presidents, what about former Democratic presidents when Republicans get the majority in 2022?”

They will try this, if they have a chance in hell of pulling it off. They actually don’t need an excuse, they will take any bullshit excuse they think they can ram through.

Weasel Man Proves Again That He Is Indeed a Weasel.

I wonder if she’s actually anymore responsible for that than McConnell was. And if it’s even the responsibility of either one of them.
