Of course I can only speak to my local conditions, I should have added that.

there is a striking contrast between the shape of the 2-4 policemen and hers.

On a second thought this should be made into a movie. Not a comedy though, a drama movie

Honestly, if you say you donā€™t have ID, most people wonā€™t believe you, cops included. You need one to drive. And drink. Or walk into places where you can drink. Or smoke. Or buy allergy medication. Or use the library, do most banking, and in theory use a credit card.

I have been with people who forgot an ID, and the reaction is generally some form of, ā€œthen it was a mistake coming here.ā€ This seems to be how most bars down town keep out homeless people, even if they have a little cash for food.

In this case, I will say two things: 1) the pedestrian/bike traffic at UT is abominable. Only place Iā€™ve ever seen a bike pulled over for running a red light. 2) She walked away from a cop. That was stupid. We can be indignant about it, but probably wonā€™t make Art Acevedo give a damn, and it certainly doesnā€™t get oneā€™s afternoon back.

The law ā€“ everywhere in the U.S. ā€“ is pretty much structured so that you can make anyoneā€™s life miserable for up to 24 hours, and any kind of public nuissance somehow runs afoul of 12 different laws to rack up penalties.

You do not need to provide papersā€¦ but when an officer approaches you after you committed a violation/misdemeanor(a stop)ā€¦ you have to id yourself with name an address. If she did that to begin with, she likely would have gotten a warning. Instead she freaked out and was detained. Bfd

Nowhere does it say you have to have an I.D. card on your person at all times.

Just about everything that they used to tell us about the Evil Empire in grade school has become routine in the Land of the Free.

heehee is obnoxious but at least you didnā€™t type LOL.

YOLO! Never forget it.

You bring up a great point. In a nearby town 3 pedestrians have been hit by cars while the pedestrians were using a designated crosswalk. It would seem common sense should reign when crossing a street (not a highway) whether using a crosswalk or jaywalking.

Thatā€™s a good question, but I donā€™t know. I had to look up stop and identify laws for my state because, to my surprise, itā€™s become an issue when Iā€™m exercising. I didnā€™t get as far as looking into what happens with respect to ID when you get cited or arrested because I didnā€™t think Iā€™d need that, but then again I never thought Iā€™d even need to know about stop and identify, either, so maybe I need to keep reading.

But Iā€™m sure you canā€™t show what you donā€™t have.

But you arenā€™t required to carry it on your person while jogging.

May Baby Jeebus bless and protect the brave ladies and gentlemen of our law enforcement departments as they protect us. Death to the Liberal Jaywalkers!

I think that sign means itā€™s safe to overtake, being a relatively long view on a windy road.

Is Friday night some American holiday where itā€™s forbidden to be at a computer?

Personally, my wife and I love Fridays. Nearly everyone seems to leave at around 15:00 and then one can enjoy 3 or 4 hours of quiet office time.

As an Austinite, I like that. But perhaps a weirdness of Austinites might be more apropos. Even better, just a weird of Austinites.

Well, it sure is a demanding and thankless job. Looking at those two pigs, I can imagine catching a jogger would take a lot out of them, and I bet nobody showed them the least bit of gratitude for keeping the streets safe that day.

Wow being handcuffed by the cops now makes national news if youā€™re white?

To put this in context, the area has a yearly jaywalking sting to teach students not to run out into incoming traffic willy nilly. On Monday a man stepped out into the street to start jaywalking and got hit by a busā€™s side mirror, prompting this yearā€™s sting operation.

The city spent a shitload on money to build a protected bike lane right there and students are using it to stand and jog in because itā€™s that much closer to the other side of the street than the sidewalk, thus making the whole situation less safe than before the city spent all of that money to protect cyclists.

Thatā€™s not the case with this woman who jogged across a street half a block away. Thatā€™s just me venting about how there is a desperate need to manage pedestrian traffic in this area. Of course the point at which someone is on the ground in tears is the point at which you are clearly doing it horribly horribly wrong.

And now I wait for the accusations of cop lover because I didnā€™t even make a single joke about how cops are fat pigs and we all hate fat people amirite

Actually people started calling cops pigs because of their historical oppression of minority groups. And yet here we are up in arms because a young college educated white girl was shown undue force by being grabbed instead of worrying about the fact that this happens to other classes of people every day. I think this makes us pigs as well.
