I guess it is supposed to evoke Au, the symbol for gold. Because it doesn’t seem to evoke anything particularly Australian.
So busy. And a gradient? Who did they hire to design the logo, 1997?
It needs two gold hands on either side of it.
For anyone wondering, as I was, it is purportedly meant to represent “wattle” which is a type of acacia native to Australia.
Found that here: https://www.theaustralian.com.au/commentary/strewth/green-and-gold-coronavirus-is-our-new-logo/news-story/4cea4857958f9991cba26c2ebb209b5e
And here’s a photo of said wattle:

Aren’t logos supposed to scale well; from business card to billboard. And it’s so busy it must have been designed by an ink salesman.
Was there really a need to make the change? And, it looks like one of those ‘by committee’ jobs. Yuck.
Your first link is paywalled.
It’s meant to be a Golden Wattle Flower which is apparently the national flower of Australia. And in some ways, it’s quite clever - gold, AU - yes I get it - but it’s not great.
Its saving grace is that it is better than the previous logo with the two boomerangs. Honestly, take a look at it and tell me it looks like Australia (which actually looks like the head of a Scotty dog):
“It grows the brand!”
I was thinking an atom, too - but gold has only 79 electrons; whatever this is is seriously radioactive!
The Australian Made logo is not being replaced by that new logo.
I think it invokes the shape of Australia a bit, and I like that Tasmania is included, but yeah, it’s not great.
Yeah, the ‘shape of Australia’ conceit feels like a bit of a stretch.
Honestly the old logo looks like something you’d see for a TeleCom company.
Could they get it to spray water?
Bloody awful design. Or should that be bloody auful?
With a wedding ring
It’s not my country, so I don’t get to decide, but would it have been cool if they made the logo of all the animals that have gone extinct after white people moved to that continent?
everyone’s a critic.
