I don’t know why it isn’t more evident. The guy has been America’s foremost public flim-flam man for more than three decades, bilking everyone with a flood of false promises.

Because part of the con would be convincing most people that he’s too much of an idiot to take part in such a con (let alone pull it off). And if that’s what he’s doing, look how well it’s working. Even most of the smarter than your average bear bbsers pile on in threads devoted to ridiculing Trump’s supposed imbecility.

A grifter doesn’t have to be smart, although it helps. The fact that he has the mentality and literacy level of an 11-year-old might actually help him connect with his marks.

True, though mentality and literacy levels can both be low in very smart people. And when people here and elsewhere ridicule his supposed level of intelligence, they’re usually ridiculing just that, as much or more than his mentality and literacy level.
Anyway, here’s hoping that he really is a flatout moron, and that as a result, he’ll fall flat on his face before too long.

I hope so, too. There are hopeful signs that there are limits to his overreach. It took 20 years or so, but the major American banks eventually realised that it was in fact not a good idea to keep lending this person hundreds of millions of dollars (which is why he had to turn to distressed banks and to Russian banks for debt financing in the 2000s).
In terms of raw intelligence I don’t think he’s particularly stupid or particularly smart. To me his character sheet shows an average or slightly lower-than-average Int. stat, a very low Wisdom stat, and a bizarrely high Charisma stat that can be saved against with a throw based on Int or Wisdom or the “Post-Secondary Education” perk.

Nah, The Prince would advise Trump to start undermining his opponents with new laws, consolidate the means of production, create useful scapegoats to sacrifice and produce a more engaging narrative than that stupid “MAGA” nonsense.
Instead, Trump is just acting the fool, while throwing scraps to his base.
I wish I could like this twice.
