Badass Dragon Scavengers of the Void - Final Round - Bastion


#1

Half the crew works feverishly on board the Coleridge setting defensive perimeters, welding access points closed, and researching the fascinating properties of the globs. Meanwhile, a spirited defense takes place out in the void. Both Tea and Perfectly Normal return to the ship worse for wear but with a load of increasingly valuable globs. Shiny! and Racks lead wave after wave of the creatures into the crossfire presented by the gunnery deck. Although the hostiles are faster and more maneuverable than expected, Princess Rembrandt, Honeywine, and Naughty Boy manage to down several of the heavies before having to abandon the guns.

Claw in hoof, Philosolobster and Rocky Road battle the skirmishers in a brutal standoff long enough for the others to finish the preparations aboard ship. With moments to spare, they’re pulled inside so the others can finally weld the last access hatch shut.

The Bogey pulls up alongside the ship, launches several squidgy tendrils across the gap, and pulls the Coleridge into its alien embrace. You have a bad feeling about all this.

Corrected! Partially a function of miscoding the reward in the mission config and correcting manually after the run, and partially a function of knowing that would have slipped by a Type 2 on the Chiquita-Turing scale unnoticed. Boy, is my face red. :persevere:

FANTASTIC DEFENSE

Every one is still alive.

The Wardens (Mission 5) and the Diggers (Mission 1) worked together under Li’l Smokey’s leadership to hold the line. No breakthroughs. Not a single HP lost to enemy action. The Coleridge survives without additonal damage.

The Mission 3 gunners went 9 for 12 – nice shooting, boys! Unfortunately, Naughty Boy’s gun jammed on the third firing.

Our two recons were a sight to behold, as their space Ballet apparently went 6 for 6 in drawing big baddies into the line of fire.

The Lizard, Golden Space Dragon, and the Lobster who is finally himself, were both sucessful on the very high risk Mission 2, gathering two GOLD and one RED.

While we generally did a great job keeping the damage down, we have four scavengers with critical levels of HP.

The bad news: five flights of hostiles are attempting to breach the outer hull and it’s only a matter of time until they come pouring in here. The swarm is estimated at a strength of 5000 HP. In this situation I am authorized to declare your contracts null and void if you will assist in the survival of this vessel and all hands aboard.”

Segment 3) Final barricades: take 20-60HP based on DEF, Counterattack! inflict 2xPOW HP on attackers, GLO+1
Special:

  • Damage is reduced depending on the outcome of Mission 3.
  • Counterattack! is 3xPOW if the five main classes are represented on this mission (Digger, Warden, Recon, Guardian, Scholar)

  • Upon completion of this mission, you will join all those that take Mission 2 as part of the Last Stand

Risks: Fighting the remaining swarm until the swarm is defeated or all players are dead. Swarm damage represented by (SwarmHP/100 - SwarmHP/50)HP damage based on DEF. Scavengers inflict damage first based on total POW of surviving scavengers.

Risks: Damage: (40+SCI)% chance to avoid 10HP damage from feedback during each segment
Special: Total SEN assigned to this mission helps missions 1 and 2 up to a total of 100 SEN.
SEN 25 - damage on mission 1 and mission 2 reduced by 13%
SEN 50 - damage on mission 1 and mission 2 reduced by 25%
SEN 75 - damage on mission 1 and mission 2 reduced by 38%
SEN 100 - damage on mission 1 and mission 2 reduced by 50%

Mission 4 - Fire in the Hole:
“Best of all, those eggheads have given us an ace in the hole. One, this thing has a hive mind - kill the Bogey and the remaining threats drop dead. Two, those weird structures growing from that thing are extremely sensitive to warp fluctuations. Remember those three jump cores we found back on the Swan? If we can get one into just the right spot, it should kill the Bogey and shut this whole nightmare down.”

Cost: none
Salvage: Surviving this mission releases you from your contract. GLO+5 for being crazy enough to take it.
Restriction: Only available to Iconoclasts, available once per scavenger for a total of three attempts.
Chance of success: (SCI+SEN)%
Risks: (75-DEF) damage on success, (150-DEF) on failure. First success voids all remaining Mission 4 attempts.
Special: Success in this mission destroys all remaining hostiles.

Mission 5 - Cut and Run
"Well, it looks like those nipple things are escape pods - biologically sound for hypersleep and pointed at the core systems. If you leave you’ll be in violation of your contract, but I suppose that’s just another notch in your outlaw belt isn’t it? You’ll betray the rest of the crew but at least you’ll get out of here in one piece"

Cost: none
Salvage: GLO reduced to 0
Risks: Violation of your contract, telling crazy stories in space bars
Special:

  • Six escape pods are available in total.
  • If more than six scavengers choose this mission, lowest GLO scores have priority.
  • You may file public orders with @kassandra, but take this mission privately by sending a PM to @messana
  • In the event that all pods are taken, your standing orders with @kassandra will be executed
  • Any GLO ties will be settled by coin toss

GM Note: What I’d hoped to communicate above is that taking Mission 1 buys time for everyone on Mission 2 and allow any Mission 4 types to make their attack runs.

Those that choose Mission 4 will set up their attack run from highest EVA to lowest EVA as more EVA gets you there quicker. Example: Scavengers Alf (EVA 50), Bella (EVA 20), and Crom (EVA 51) choose mission 4. Crom’s result is calculated in Segment 4, Alf’s result is calculated in Segment 5 (if needed), and Bella’s result is calculated in Segment 6 (if needed). At that point, all surviving Mission 4 folks jet back to the Coleridge to join in on mission 2 in Segment 8 if the battle is still ongoing.
