As someone who has admittedly mocked what used to be called beauty pageants for their misogyny and general lack of substance, I want to acknowledge this woman as a certified badass.

For sure both things can be true:

• This woman, and many other contestants are impressive people and undeniable badasses.
• The entire pageant industry is fundamentally and irredeemably flawed as long as it’s putting women on display and judging them, at least in part, on their physical appearance.
