Maybe. If the incompetence of Trump’s virus response weren’t so readily on display for everyone, I’d have put it as likely that Trump would get re-elected. Who knows what the American electorate is going to care about six months from now? Hell, there are some people who are so politically naive and/or disingenuous that they’re pretending that there’s no difference between Trump and Biden, so who the heck knows when it comes to voters?
If you voted in the Dem primary - you are they. You’re just one of the they who’s candidate lost. Like people who supported Castro, Warren, Harris etc. etc.
Yes. I’m aware. they are centrist in the context of our current political landscape… There is no “normal” political spectrum, just what actually exists.
If you want to move the democratic party to the left, then you need to be a part of moving it, rather than stamping your feet and making offensive accusations.
Obama gave us an R house, and R senate, and eventually Trump. 4 more years of ‘like Obama’ is going to give us all that and a constitutional amendment to ban abortion SC aside.
Unless we make lives better for the people on the bottom - they are going to continue to rage - the R’s tapped into that - the D’s are trying to keep away from any form of populist message with a 10 foot pole.
That leaves it all on the table for the R’s - they’ll run with it - right to the bank.
Some people are saying that he’ll pick her - but without any supporting evidence or analysis of what he would think he gets from that choice. Picking up moderates? Yeah - he has those covered.
I just want to take a moment to appreciate Papasan. A guy who’s heart was in his candidate - but still shows what separates the men from the boys…er…bros.
Um… no. People voted for an R house and senate… and this is actually a pretty common occurrence, the congress flipping to the other party. Obama wasn’t a dictator, he was president, who was subjected to politics as usual, with an added heap of racism, despite being a centrist.
Oh, I’m gonna vote. Just for the progressive people I can find in my state, local, and federal elections that actually have policies that are about meaningful change, rather than kick-the-can-down-the-road neolib hypocrites who take women’s allegations seriously when it’s an opponent or someone less important and ignore them when it’s they’re guy who’s catching hell and are just lining the country up for an even worse rebound down the road.
But you’re not going to vote in the Presidential election - yet you want them to cater to a guy who isn’t going to vote. As a friend’s uncle said about the Pope and sex - If you don’t play the game - you don’t make the rules.
Well I made the mistake of hitching a reply to a flagged comment. But let me repeat:
^^^ This is why the Democrats are garbage as a political entity. They will eat themselves and alienate voters when a candidate fails their purity tests.
Republicans have been backing rapists, racists, and child molesters as long as they can keep a political position an R. They may have devolved into party loyalty that the Soviets would envy - but they keep winning. Ideals are second to winning. Would they rather have “good” candidates? Sure. But if all they have is a rambling goof ball with archaic ideas, they will back him no matter what.
i’m only saying it because i’m depressed sanders dropped out. biden doesn’t have a track record of making the best decisions, so who knows for sure.
my expectations are low. part of biden’s argument was that he can appeal across the aisle, so let’s hope he doesn’t do something really stupid like pick a republican
