Best way to deal with parking spot stealers

I’ve been hit with a baseball bat. In the ribs. It sucks pretty bad. I’d expect a prosthetic leg would only hurt a little less in capable hands.

On the other hand, the article says “The flight crew took away her prosthetic leg, and she resorted to kicking with her good one.”

Which would leave her without a leg to stand on, quite literally.

I’ve just spent the last few minutes trying to figure out how one-legged kicks work, and have decided that she must have been supporting nearly all or all of her weight by holding onto a seat or something while she was kicking with the only leg she had. Or was it more of a hopping stomp?

Busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest?

I’ll say the same, except that it actually is an interesting question!

I disagree, as follows…

dumb luck - (seriously!), you could as easily argue 4sec or 0.5sec

irrelevant - any savvy driver should increase following distance under adverse conditions, heck 30sec or a minute could be valid if you’re at the top of an icy hill waiting to see if the guy ahead of you makes it or not

see above

Not sure I understand this one? Somebody coming at you the wrong way is a hazard no matter how close or far you are! Unless you mean he was trying to cut across in front of you? In that case he was most likely (stupidly) trying to “thread the needle”. A 2sec distance might have been better! (Or 4sec so anybody who wants to could do it, courtesy and all that.

And just for reference, nobody who’s 2sec behind you will get any of your fluid either unless you’ve adjusted the nozzles so far they don’t hit the glass any more!

Speaking of which, I knew a guy who was an avid CB’er with a ridiculously long (15ft? 5m?) whip antenna bolted to his rear bumper on a spring base. When he wasn’t out in the boonies he kept it bent down to his front bumper, held in place by a catch bolted just above his window, so he could release it easily. If he released it at speed it would bow down behind him with some force. He apparently dented more than a few hoods/bonnets with it!

Novelty only, most (all?) states will ticket you for having it, citing distraction to other drivers, false indication of intention (i.e. a red light that changes state which is not a stop or turn), etc.

Having someone ride your ass unnecessarily at 100+kph isn’t distracting? Isn’t a brake-check equally a false indication, except far more dangerous?

I argue that these types of comms devices should be mandated for all vehicles. As it is, the only reliable means of communication are turn signals, brakelights and possibly highbeams, but those are all essentially single-message cues.

It’s stupid to not have adequate communication in such environments.

Yep, and you can be ticketed for that as well.

It’d be super awesome if there were a legal way to indicate to the person behind you that they’re in danger of smashing into your rear end if anything goes wrong.

I also wish I could ticket such assholes. They cause me tons of stress that could easily be avoided by them, for instance, going around if they want to go faster than I am going (usually 70mph on a 60mph freeway, in the middle of the night, with several empty inside lanes to my left) but the brain-damaged fuckers like to sit right behind me as I take my foot off the gas and cruise down to 60mph. If they want to go faster than me, they’re welcome to go around. It’s very easy. I don’t know why they tailgate someone already going 70 in a 60, and choose not to go around. Either they’re too stupid to be on the road, or they’re doing it on purpose.

Lol! Probably just teenagers. (Or a hungry cop trying to see if you’ll speed up.)
Anyway, you can always call in the plate.

Not if they’re tailgating. They’re usually too close for the plate to be visible. Also, it’s the middle of the night for me, it’s not like plates are super visible even during the day. There’s also the problem that while I see well enough to pass the driving vision test, I can’t read a license plate if it’s much further than 10 meters away. So there’s that.

I suppose I should get a dash and rear-view cam to do that kind of documentation for me.

I have been ticketed that way. I used to speed up for tailgaters, but the State patrol likes to tailgate extremely close to try and force you to speed up. By the time you realize how fast you’re going, and try to get out of the pig’s way, they turn on the lights and write you up. Because they’re not above breaking the law to make their unconstitutional ticket quota.

Relevant. Regardless of conditions the floor for following a vehicle is 3 seconds.

https://www.travelers.com/prepare-prevent/auto/car-travel/three-second-rule.aspx

http://mylicence.sa.gov.au/the-hazard-perception-test/safe-following-distance

This isn’t even a contentious issue. And the reason ive cited insurance agencies is acturaries have studied this. Risk increases dramatically when a person follows closer than 3.

Eta

Vermont says 4 seconds, oregon advises at least 2 seconds, but if that is the case their math breaks down unless you are driving a brand new corvette with brand new ceramic brakes. (They have enormous brakes with impressive stopping power)

Turn on indicators and pull slightly to the shoulder.

And yes anyone that uses Indicators is likely the most boring driver in the world. A mantle I wear with pride.

The number 3 thing (behind not being seen while stopped and drivers turning in front of me) that scares me most when I am on the motorbike are the drivers who tailgate and have absolutely no clue how damn fast I can panic stop on that thing.

That’s why I go faster than everybody else when I’m on the bike! (Quarter million miles on two wheels w/no accidents!)

Well this is morning commute traffic so going I am usually going whatever speed the guy 2 to 3 seconds ahead of me is doing just some drivers seem to think I should be riding their bumper like they do when they end up passing on the right.
Afternoon traffic is too slow to care about that.
