I would love to see them in the original Klingon. I have to assume Exodus 20:13 reads a bit differently.
KJV:
“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s”
Louisiana Revised Version:
“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his cattle, nor anything that is thy neighbor’s.”
Apparently coveting thy neighbor’s ass was not something the legislators were prepared to give up.

Aw, I ever so miss Bud.
We just watched this, my GF for the first time, me for the first time in a couple decades. It was disconcerting to realize I’m now much closer to the Frank Parnell state of life than the Emilio Estevez state.
I would love to hear someone in court argue that “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me” is not religion.
It’s ok- so is Emilio Estevez.
Today’s sermon is from Paul’s letter to the Galatians chapter 5, as well as the Gospel according to John and Luke with some Hebrews thrown in.
Sounds like good red blooded 'Murrican preaching so far, right?
Sounds like socialism to me!
which references the words of Christ himself:
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. … So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other.
I mean which are Christians supposed to follow, that ancient old testament which was specifically declared obsolete (Hebrews 7:22 “Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant”) or the New Testament, to which every Christian professes when they take communion:
“This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is given for you”
So in conclusion, real Christians wanting to shove their religion into public education would insist on a poster in every classroom that reads “Love one another”. Honestly it would be pretty hard to find any objectors to that, even among atheists. Now turn in your hymnals to “Lord, Whose Love Through Humble Service”
/sermon
What an ignorant clown show. Almost makes me wish it were all real, just to see them all burn in hell.
I would hate to hear someone argue that in court. The dishonesty and sophistry these people engage in is painful to listen to.
The cinemátic one?
Bravo!
But, really, there are two commandments that even atheists and satanists would have no objection to:
- Love one another (as you noted, and interestingly enough, this commandment has no exceptions), and
- Do unto others as you would have done unto you
Everything else is window dressing.
Yes.
From the Slacktivist post that @Scurra posted:
The Fraternal Order of Eagles heard about DeMille’s big-budget production and reached out to the producer for his endorsement of their Ten Commandments campaign. DeMille saw dollar signs and got on board in a big way, funding the creation of granite “Ten Commandments” monuments that the Eagles could donate to schools and municipalities all over the country.
There are no “ten” commandments anyway. No version of the passage parses neatly into ten, which is part of the reason that everybody’d ten commandments are different, and there is so much repetition in versions of them.
Not written by god, but by men.
These people are idiots as well as evil.
Can we just for a moment consider that
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.
is making “my wife” equivalent to “my house” or “my donkey.” Making a woman equivalent to a possession or to livestock is at the very least uncool. To make this a mandatory part of early childhood education is damaging. This is my field, I do think I get an opinion here, and mine is that this sucks.
(And this is before we get into the whole slavery issue)
… but aren’t these hyper-pious holier-than-thou people always up to all kinds of heinous shit when they think nobody is looking
Although requiring public school classrooms to display religious commandments is getting the most press, it is one of 20 education bills Landry signed yesterday.
He held a rally at a private Catholic school to celebrate his changes to the public schools last night. The other new laws give public funds to private schools and home schooling, outlaw discussion of LGBTQ+ anything in schools and require written permission from parents for a student to use a new name or pronoun, and prevent schools from requiring covid vaccines.
and here’s the top 10 list of yesterday’s attack on public education:
HB 46, authored by Rep. Kathy Edmonston, R-Gonzales: Prohibits schools from mandating that students must have a COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of enrollment or attendance.
HB 47, authored by Edmonston: Requires information about vaccine exemptions be communicated to families when they are told about vaccine requirements.
HB 71, authored by Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton: Requires the display of the Ten Commandments in schools.
HB 121, authored by Rep. Raymond Crews, R-Bossier City: Requires parental approval before a teacher could use a student’s preferred name and pronouns.
HB 122, authored by Horton: Prohibits discussion of gender and sexuality in grades K-12 if it is not part of classroom instruction.
HB 334, authored by Rep. Beryl Amedée, R-Gray: Allows school boards to appoint chaplains to serve in public schools as employees or on a volunteer basis.
HB 644, authored by Rep. Kellee Hennessy Dickerson, R-Denham Springs: Allows homeschooled students to participate in public school extra curricular activities.
HB 647, authored by Rep. Troy Romero, R-Jennings: Requires the Louisiana Department of Education to provide a list to the Legislature of required teachings that fall outside of the required courses for graduation.
HB 908, authored by Amedée: Prohibits discrimination against students based on vaccine status.
It seems these two might conflict, if said parent is supportive and gives that permission, it seems that it would lead to questions of “why?” and run headlong into HB122. IT’s all bullshit, and the cover of “parental rights” falls apart on first examination. Other than the parental right to toe the fascist line or else, i guess.
