Yeah, I hear my governor JB getting mentioned a lot too. Much like Biden, he wasn’t my first choice (in the first election) but he’s done a good job. Unlike Biden, he has zero issues with taking a victory lap and/or getting into a dust up which is really interesting to see considering he’s old money billionaire and Illinois is famed for ultra corrupt governors.
We also have Tammy who, like JB, has zero issues going on the offensive. I don’t see either of them prominent on the national stage yet though, and honestly hope we keep them at home for a bit.
… Aaron Burr shot Hamilton in a duel? (Yes, Burr was VP to Jefferson at the time!)
Could have something to do with him no longer being VP for Jefferson’s 2nd term.
… is that because every single third-party candidate just happens to be an untreated crazy person, or because that’s what the Two Parties and their media allies have to say about third-party people to try to get those votes back
I go by what they say in “League of Women Voters” guide, so their own words.
Say what you will about today’s VPs, but I don’t think any of Mike Pence’s or Kamala Harris’ gaffes are likely to be so over-the-top that people will be making Broadway musicals about them two centuries from now.
On one side, we get a seat at the table. On the other, we get a barracks in the camps. Seems like a pretty simple choice to me.
I agree with most of what you said except for this.
I don’t feel like I have a seat at the table, I believe we are kept just happy enough and just scared enough to keep voting for them. I believe the Dems are self serving first and country second, they have zero real interest in correcting economic inequality. I believe they are partly responsible for the fascist uprising, they have left the disenfranchised feeling abandoned and vulnerable to being charmed by criminals and pillow sales people. They are ineffective against gerrymandering. They have undermined populist candidates and even sold out the best Dem president of our times to the lobbyists to buy a second term. They have allowed the Republicans to game the SCJ nomination process which then immediately took away rights of women and now trans.
I wish the Dem Pres didn’t get a single vote in any solid red state. They simply don’t deserve it.
I also believe the Dems are so ineffective against the fascist uprising that the only way it is going to stop is for something terrible to happen which makes the fascist apologists finally be honest with what is happening and let go of their prejudices (or at least be silent about it) for another few decades. The Dems are responsible for this trajectory, not the voters who are fed up with voting for the non fascist choice.
And at the very end, when the fascists are lining people up against the walls to be shot, some will still be muttering “this must all be the fault of those Democrats – I’m glad I never once voted for them.”
Ugh.
Please please run someone younger.
Or at least not a corporate Dem.
No. Not Harris. Keep looking.
I’ll get right on that.
I don’t feel like I have a seat at the table,

Not to mention everyone else who also isn’t a White cis-het “Xtian” male.
He really is amazing. He makes, like 15 facial expressions in the span of two seconds.
… I am so glad that after 2½ years of deprivation we can once again look forward to reading the same three vapid arguments for and against Biden posted over and over every five minutes for the next eighteen months

“We should let the fascists gain power unopposed so they can commit some atrocities so unspeakable that they are filled with remorse and stop being fascist on their own accord” is, quite literally, the worst proposal for combating fascism I’ve ever heard in my life.
Well, did anyone wondering about BIden’s VP pick watch the video in Rob’s post all the way to the end?
(It took me ages to read through this whole topic before posting, so you may have heard it somewhere else by now.)
Nope. Fuck that noise.
Did a lot of Democrats of Biden’s generation mess up? Did they completely drop the ball on things like the courts and judges?
They did. But things have improved. We can keep pushing. We’ve had a generation of a lot of people not paying attention. They’re paying attention now. The kids who had to grow up with all of this shit? They’re old enough to vote now.
Anyone who isn’t voting for the candidate who can win against fascism is a collaborator. Understand that.
As for all the votes in red states going to the GOP? Hell no. Some of those states aren’t as red as you think. Plus in reality, votes lower down often follow whomever is at the top of the ticket. Wishing that everyone in a red state will vote for the GOP as president means wishing that they will vote for the GOP for senator, and US representatives, and local representatives, and local Senate, and attorney general, and every single other position.
So no. We vote the disappointing candidate now. We hold the god’s damned line. And we keep pushing
Where I live the people who see themselves as disenfranchised have held all the majority political power in the state and at most county levels everywhere but a few fragments of a handful of cities for damned near 40 years uninterrupted… they are the majority and by a landslide they are the wealthiest group of people in this state with megachurches that fund political candidates and billionaires who buy supreme court justices… but they still see themselves as disenfranchised.
The more I think about it the more sure I am that there really is no populist movement in the US, there’s just Trump standing there naked and everyone insists they are seeing him dressed in populism.
(Sarcasm)
On one hand, they want to murder us all and create a white fascist christian ethnostate…
But on the other, they aren’t solving all of humanity’s ills at once.
Guess we have no choice but to go for the genocide to send a message.
Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont officially endorsed President Joe Biden for reelection Tuesday, making clear that another presidential run wasn’t in the cards during an interview with The Associated Press. The last thing this country needs is a...
Sanders:
“ The last thing this country needs is a Donald Trump or some other right-wing demagogue who is going to try to undermine American democracy or take away a woman’s right to choose, or not address the crisis of gun violence, or racism, sexism or homophobia. So, I’m in to do what I can to make sure that the president is reelected.”
Letting “greater evil” win the day because you can’t bring yourself to vote for the “lesser evil” is nonproductive and childish.
Right?
At times like these I dust off the words of Tbogg, a somewhat popular blogger back in the days of blogs, addressing someone who also felt that it wasn’t worth voting for Dems due to their non-ideal nature:
Let me see if I can explain it this way:
Every year in Happy Gumdrop Fairy-Tale Land all of the sprites and elves and woodland creatures gather together to pick the Rainbow Sunshine Queen. Everyone is there: the Lollipop Guild, the Star-Twinkle Toddlers, the Sparkly Unicorns, the Cookie Baking Apple-cheeked Grandmothers, the Fluffy Bunny Bund, the Rumbly-Tumbly Pupperoos, the Snowflake Princesses, the Baby Duckies All-In-A-Row, the Laughing Babies, and the Dykes on Bikes. They have a big picnic with cupcakes and gumdrops and pudding pops, stopping only to cast their votes by throwing Magic Wishing Rocks into the Well of Laughter, Comity, and Good Intentions. Afterward they spend the rest of the night dancing and singing and waving glow sticks until dawn when they tumble sleepy-eyed into beds made of the purest and whitest goose down where they dream of angels and clouds of spun sugar.
You don’t live there.
Grow the fuck up.
