Biden wins most Super Tuesday states; Sanders takes California

Goodness but i hate this primary process. Illinois doesnt get to vote until 17 March, by which time some of the candidates I’d have considered voting for will no longer be on the ballot. Just because Iowa gets to go first (deliberate oversimplification).

California moving up to Super Tuesday this year didn’t make it any less weird. Plucking the remaining candidates from the sea of withdrawals was odd. Normally we just went “well, I guess I’ll pick the lone remaining candidate…”

No clear delegate lead is still the mostly likely outcome. We’re still mostly looking at wins with 1/3 of the vote and a few pluralities.

There’s a hundred or so unallocated delegates from caucuses or people who have dropped that become a factor on the second round of the convention. And there are almost 800 super delegates. So the possibility is there.

I just don’t think she’s getting enough delegates to make it a factor. Even if she picks up every loose delegate she’s gonna be at a distant third, and super delegates have never broken with the popular vote. For all the talk about them existing to prevent a bad candidate by doing just that, their major function is preventing a brokered convention by reinforcing the vote.

Yeah, I was really hoping that Warren would pick up enough “College educated white people” (where her support is best) from Pete and Amy to get more >15% finishes. As it stands, she only picked up 10 delegates on Tuesday, two more than Bloomberg.

“biden 2020: hey, you know, a third Obama term doesn’t look so bad now, does it?”

No. Now that Biden is the candidate we get to hear the media talk non-stop about Hunter Biden and Barisma from now until the election. I’m pretty sure it will be the “Hillary’s emails” of 2020.

Personally I think Democrats would be more likely to win an election where the media talks nonstop about Socialism because that is at least a relevant idea. Hunter Biden and Burisma are not relevant ideas and the fact that there is little substance to it just makes it the perfect fertile ground for conspiracy theorists.

Unfortunately, Hillary’s emails are still the “Hillary’s emails” of 2020.

I agree with this. The Republicans and the media are going to try calling Sanders a “socialist” like it’s a magic word and I don’t think that will work out for them any better than it worked calling Trump as “racist or a sexist”. The people saying the word think it’s supposed to be disqualifying. The people hearing the word can’t be counted on to think the same.

(Note: I’m not saying there is an equivalency between being racist and being socialist. One is bad, the other is good. I’m saying there is a similarity in how I think a campaign focused around pointing out racism vs. socialism will play to the different voters they are trying to appeal to)

So much for Mike’s 500 Million…

Good news! If Illinois is anything like Virginia, your candidate may drop out, but they’ll still be on the ballot! You can still see their name, as you vote for Biden.

Some groovie techno tunes referencing the headline to make your day better, hopefully. This whole album is great.

Hot take: Bloomberg doesn’t want Trump to lose so much as he doesn’t want a President who will tax the shit him fairly instead of proportionately but with a ton of loopholes.

In other words, he knows he won’t likely win, but if it’s Trump or Biden, he’s relatively safe, whereas Sanders has the rhetoric and Warren has actual policies and history that say him and his ilk are downright fucked.

If it’s Biden vs Trump, this whole election is going to be one giant orgy of hopelessness.

I agree that Bloomberg doesn’t necessarily feel like they need to be president but just wants Biden over Sanders. I think Bloomberg entered the race because they were worried Biden was faltering and so they thought they needed to come in and take on Sanders themself. After Super Tuesday I think it’s obvious (it was obvious before, but I guess now Bloomberg can get it through their thick skull) that Bloomberg was making it more likely Sanders won by entering the race, not less.

With a very close delegate count (and still being determined), and now that Bloomberg has dropped, the debate stage will have only 3 or 4 people… Biden will have to put on a good show, and his brain is not doing him any favors lately.

The media is going to pretend like it’s nothing but Joe, but in any other race he would not be considered in a solid position. I guess Biden could pick up the Bloomberg votes, and if Warren stays in she is a foil for Bernie, but this thing isn’t over. I’m preparing for disappointment, but hopeful for the possibility of Biden blowing his big shot with an ill-timed gaffe.
