Senator Tommy Tuberville thinks we fought WWII to stop the spread of communism. None of these newer right wing conservatives (Boebert, MTG, Tuberville, Gosar, etc) know any history and they don’t care. They use words like USSR, Nazi, communist, socialist as stand-ins for anything they don’t like, which is just about everything. Some smarter conservatives have done some of this as well, intentionally conflating Nazis with socialists because the official name of the Nazi party had the german word for socialist in it. Anytime someone tries that specific argument with me, I bring up two former nations: the German Democratic Republic, which was neither democratic nor a republic, and the Holy Roman Empire, which was none of those three things.

I like Democratic Kampuchea for that (one party autocrats in Thailand), but generally when someone describes Nazis as socialists I ask them do they believe all Nazi propaganda or just that one bit?
The fact about the Nazis is that they were the recipients of donor money from the wealthy, from industry seeking to destroy unions, and they were voted into power by centrists who did so to make sure socialists had no part in government.
