#BowlingGreenMassacre is Trump spokesliar Kellyanne Conway's latest 'alternative fact'

Indeed - I’m not American, so I only know it from its long and dire reputation, but wouldn’t Fox News have been all over an event like that, for (at least) weeks?
(Edit for typo)

Perfect! I gotta agree with @ben_ehlers, you’re gonna do just fine here.

Take a little time to explore some of the games, wrath and dizzy threads. I look forward to seeing some critter pics or whatever hobby thing you’re working on in meatspace.

Isn’t that already a department in the Stack Social store?

Maybe that’s the next step-- Trump administration cites phony attack, Fox news gins up a report to match the administration’s account.

Backdate the article on their CMS - sorted! Backdated truthiness.
Actually, that’s scary.

Or there are a lot of rock-stupid people in this world. I’m a fan of Occam’s razor myself.

Hmm. Would playing 4’33" on noise-isolating headphones be for or against the purpose of the piece?

Not to get too far astray from the actual subject but I thought the original point of the piece was that the ambient noise be part of it. Making a musical composition of total silence would just be ridiculous. :smiling_imp:

But is it the ambient noise from where it is recorded which is part of the piece, or the ambient noise where it is being played back?

In concert, they are one and the same, but when it’s a Youtube clip?

It is probably safe to assume that the White House has now had more to say about the #BowlingGreenMassacre than the Mosque shooting in Canada.

At the same risk - You would be getting the ambient noise that was present at the recording, though. Which is why I erped. [Edit: @nimelennar said it first]
I think you’re right that this probablycertainly isn’t the place to work this through at the level of detail I suspect we’d use.

Yeah the two really are completely different creatures. And unlike Trump, Obama had a decent REASON to hold things off and revised the vetting process.

Also, it was 2011, which was when were pulled out of Iraq, which meant more people wanting to come with.

Cage hated recorded music… so, yes.
Well, hated might be a little strong.
And… i guess the real deal is that he didn’t want his own music recorded and didn’t think that any music should be.

So… maybe?

Time to tell my story.

August, 2011. I was in Bowling Green on business and was just walking around town one evening. I noticed some people cheering and whooping.

“What’s all the fuss about?” I said.
“We’re Muslims, and we’re celebrating the end of Ramadan,” came the reply.

It was only later that I learned that “Ramadan” is an Arabic word meaning “white Christian infidels left alive in western Kentucky.”

I squee-ed when they mentioned thinnies in the series Haven.

I missed that; I’ll have to add it to the list…

But it’s a total silence with musical instruments. Totally, totally different.

(There’s a Ligeti piece for two pianos which depends on each piano responding to the vibrations from the other, with the players blocking harmonics using the keys. It has to be listened to in stereo and it is distinctly weird. I heard it at the QEH with Ligeti present, and he gave a talk afterwards. The thing is the audience applauded wildly even though most of them would not have been in a position to hear what was going on. Magical golden ears, folks, that can hear the instruments not playing in 4’33". I hope you see the relevance to this thread.)
