On a similar note:
Yes, fuckers. āHow can we introduce a colour bar in our immigration laws without calling it that?ā
And 70 years after the Windrush landed, it was still going on.
The Conservative party hasnāt been this entertaining since the final days of the Major ministry.
Honestly, this news has gifted me the best vicarious thrill Iāve had in a long, long time.
This feels like a classic case of "I joined the Conservatives to be mean and high-handed to other people; I never thought a Conservative would be hurtful and reckless to other Conservatives."
sigh
I think itās more a case of āI only have a 346 majority and Iām going to lose at the next election if I donāt make a standā
Sheās not going to get to stand though, surely? Not as a Conservative, anyway.
She is, as an independent (assuming all the other ex-tories donāt start a new party).
I think the YouGov poll coming out is even worse.
I have done this with every Secretary of State for Work and Penisions since Iain Duncan Smith, in the desperate search for some humanity in the Tory party.
I still canāt find any.
Itās not just āpiss[ing] off some of the religious nutcakesā. It has everything to do with the history of British rule in Ireland that culminated with the formation of the Republic of Ireland. Itās much more than a border crossing acting like a red flag to a bull. The Republicans agreed to come back into the political process and stop the violent part of their struggle. If London reneges it will be seen - not incorrectly - as proof that British promises are worth nothing.
You joke but this is something Trump has floated this idea in the past. At the very minimum heās taken very real steps to sabotage Americaās role in the UN.
And probably one of his best. What a seriously wonderful film that one is.
Melanie Lynskey has gone on to a great career, too. She was fantastic in this.
Indeed. Sheās an amazing actor. (Funnily enough, I had a crush on her when I was a teenager.) And of course co-star Kate Winslet has gone on to be hugely successful.
To think this film was both of their feature debuts (and what a debut) - itās pretty mind-blowing. Peter Jackson really knows how to find talent.
(Sorry for derailing this topic. I blame @jerwin for mentioning one of my favorite films.)
Itās somewhat amusing to watch the authoritarian amber rudd and the homophobic phillip lee attempting to grow something resembling a backbone in opposing their own party.
Somewhat related: I particularly enjoyed this colbert monologue from a few days ago poking fun at/admiring the speaker of the house laying the smack down on another unruly MP. Yes, the House of Commons really is like that, particularly recently.
What our Congress needs is some good shouting matches and an occasional fistfight. If anything itād boost C-SPAN viewership.
To a lot of us (including myself) watching these theatrics in the house leaves us in a state of despair that these privileged, jeering public school boys are running the country but then again it is a system whereby those in positions of high office get to be confronted like this and during prime ministerās questions to answer for themselves.
