I once visited a New York pub that served only Trappist beer. The staff wore monks’ robes with rope belts & there was a rule of silence. Whispering was acceptable but the moment anybody got too loud the entire floor staff (& some of the patrons) would turn to face them & hiss loudly, in unison, with fingers to their lips: “SSSHHH!”
