Cabybaras break out of Toronto zoo, on the lam for 3 weeks

Semi-best case scenario, there is now a thriving feral cabybara community inhabiting Toronto’s green space.

Wishful thinking?

Oh sure, it’s all fun and games until 150-pound capybara/raccoon hybrids start fighting over our compost bins and we all die of sleep deprivation.

My favorite Los Angeles area wildlife anecdote happened years ago when a couple of bozos released an alligator that got a bit too big into a lake/pond in Harbor City.

After multiple sightings and concern that the animal was feasting on pets, the animal control people captured “Reggie” and gave him to the zoo, after which he promptly escaped and went for a nighttime jaunt. I still have the artwork from the local newspaper 'coz it’s just too cute.
