Campus rapist given lenient sentence to avoid "severe impact on him"

To borrow a line from another poster, ‘It makes so much sense they’ll never do it in the US.’

“Or at least any rapes that were seen by two male witnesses* and subsequently reported and prosecuted. Because we all know that all rapes are reported and prosecuted, right? …Are those tears of relief and gratitude?”

*Two male witnesses apparently being what’s required to actually get a rape conviction in Islamic Sharia Law US courts.

Holy Hecate - this. There was all this talk about how remorseful the guy is, but he never admitted to what he had done and his apology is vague and isn’t even addressing the victim, it addresses multiple people, “Nobody deserves a single second of what I have caused them to go through … I want to express that I’m sorry for everything.” It’s almost, “Sorry if anyone was offended by what I did.”
Hell, even the judge had to admit that there wasn’t even an admission of guilt, but yet he didn’t think his “lack of complete acquiescence to the verdict should count against him.”

Persky also noted how Turner plans to start a cause in which he’ll teach and educate college students about the effects of excessive drinking and sexual promiscuity.

FFS, the judge was basically saying that although Turner crossed some line and was technically a rapist, it’s really his victim’s fault for being a drunken slut, so we can’t hold it against him.
The more I read about this case, the angrier I get.

This is the wiki of the scumbag judge https://www.everipedia.com/aaron-persky/

OK The more I read the more… well…

Let me see if I can follow you: Only if Persky or Herhold were themselves raped, would they then want this rapist to serve more than 2-3 months in a county jail, because there is no way that the dude serves an actual six months. If their daughters were raped, they would remain, god-like, above their passions.

What I find offensive is that a spoiled, little, white, rich, man-child beats the system time and time again.

Let the serial raping begin. Rapist start your pecker.

As a victim of gang rape in college, when reporting it got me nowhere (1968), I am at least glad to know this guy was caught. Now I’d like to take him and the judge and send them both to General Population at Attica for at least 6 years That would be about equal to the “severe impact” a raped woman carries forever: on her body, her trust, and her ability to function for the rest of her life.

Yes. Yes it is. And there are usually other behaviors that go with it.

Because most men simply don’t get it. They just don’t/can’t understand the level of trust it takes to be penetrated, even with consent. Unless males happen to be into anal penetration, they can not conceive of a foreign object (even if a penis) invading their body.

I suppose that might have something to do with it. It seems overly simplistic to me though. I think the line for trust / violence against an individual should be drawn a little further out than penetration.

Spoken as a total male  Where would you draw that line? (serious question; I’m genuinely curious.)

I’m speaking as a male who was molested by a female babysitter when I was prepubescent. Not sure what to say right now about that line, but I guarantee there can be a lot of damage without penetration.

I’m very sorry that happened to you.

Thanks. Not sure why I dumped it out on the forum now, but there it is.

This is not a case of statutory rape though, and upping the minimum sentence will not have ANY affect on statutory rape convictions. This guy was convicted of 3 felonies: intent to commit rape of an intoxicated/unconscious person, penetration of an intoxicated person, and penetration of an unconscious person.

I would reverse that and say 4/5 women have been sexually assaulted. In my middle-class white family, my mother, my stepmother, my aunt, myself, and my daughter when she was 5 have all been the victim of sexual crimes. It’s sad, it’s something that is difficult to process and has just turned into a ‘when’ instead of ‘if’ when explaining to my children.

It bothers me that I have had to teach my son, that no matter what situation or context he is in, I don’t even care if it’s him asking to borrow to sharpen his pencil, if a girl tells him no, he needs to stop whatever he is doing and walk away. Because no matter what he’s going to be viewed as wrong.

Right on. Access to effective lawyers is afforded with privilege.

But whatever happened to principles? Like - “I confess, I did it, I will make reparations”?

The world kind of shifted during my years. I don’t expect everyone to say “it’s a fair cop, guv” - but fchrissakes, deal with your errors.

How again is this guy not a danger to society? Is it by carefully defining society to be the set of all people he won’t rape, given the chance?
