"But I’m also against the “check your privilege” counter trolling. "
Yeah, because men vociferously rushing to point out that maybeitsnotpornexceptpornsemancipatingthesecouldbenormalbodiesright to the exclusion of addressing the “cunt” “rape” etc. bullshit that women put up with in a structurally differentiated fashion than men have to has nothing to do with privilege, right?
Don’t stop thinking, or conversing. But do take a good fucking look at the priorities reflected in so many of the men’s comments on this thread.
Why do the unretouched photos look so garish? That’s an unflattering look for any subject-- human or otherwise. I’d adjust for woman, for a man, for a spider and for a flower.
Most of the BBers are supporters of consensual, adult porn presented in an appropriate context, but we do have different opinions, and it isn’t hypocritical to thereafter criticize grossly objectifying depictions of females in art supposedly for children to read and absorb and be inspired by.
People bringing this stuff up don’t want to talk about how gross that cover was. They don’t want to talk about the business’s pervasive sexism and misogyny. They don’t want to talk about rape threats or the ridicule to which female critics are subjected. There’s always a distraction.
We’ve already decided to leave as much up as possible, as a monument to just how wretched (“teenage girls FUCK”) the situation is. An early end might be in order, mind you.
EDIT: In retrospect, decided that particular comment had to go.
The point of posting that picture was not to highlight the content of the recent post but instead to highlight the insincerity of your post dismissing BB’s relationship with SG. I doubt a SFW photo like this from SG would seem as innocent in this context
The problem is no one here is discussing that. Everybody is hung on on the original art work and not the mind-blowing inappropriateness of the response to her criticism.
Of course you are free to discuss whatever you desire. No one is stopping you. Just don’t tell me what I should be discussing. I can’t think of a point to make that hasn’t already been made or that isn’t incredibly obvious in regards to that .
Uh, I did. How about you. I think saying “check your fucking privilege” is really more of an own goal on your part. Perhaps their should be a 2 part Godwin’s Law about discussions of women and comics 1) Rape trollies 2) Check your privileged trollies who lump everyone in with the rape trollies.
