I choose to pretend this term was used to describe a hard-drinking, chain smoking wave that stalks Los Angeles’ seedy underbelly investigating crimes. Sure he’s a loose cannon, but he gets results. At least with the cases that take place adjacent to the shore.
I don’t think it’s pedantic at all for a news organization to make sure it gets things right. Rogue waves are a specific phenomenon. This was more of a tidal/storm surge.

Isn’t that swell of them.
To flesh out the types of waves that kill people, throw in “sneaker waves”.
We have a slightly different definition.
Don’t even get me started on the undertow …
Hehehe, those sneaker waves are only a “foot” high.
a number of them are rebranded Yeezys from Adidas.
I’m sorry, you’re welcome
Welcome to BoingBoing!
Really wakes you up to the inaccurate language.
You can make your own rogue wave in your bathtub. Just keep some extra towels handy.
