I just found out about these not so long ago. Someone was replacing theirs and showed what would happen if you sawed into them, basically binding up the chain. Clever!

True arborists yield their chainsaws to nobody!
The chainsaw-Wielding arborists I know have had these for years. When I decided I needed a chainsaw of my own, several years ago, one of them refused to show me some chainsaw basics until I had a pair!

Yeah, we have a lot of arborist friends and friends with lots of woodland to maintain and these are fundamental equipment. Anyone who isn’t wearing these should be dismissed from the job; they’re probably not even properly insured or otherwise equipped.
