I believe he was at his highest approval rating after working with Obama to bring Federal aid to New Jersey after hurricane Sandy. Looks like he tanked his career by buddying up to the wrong President.

That hurt his national popularity with the Tea Baggers, but what hurt him here in Jersey was that he stopped doing his job. Everything became focused on his next position, and still is. Bridgegate didn’t help, but had he been in the state addressing his constituents needs, he’d be in better shape (politically, physically is apparently beyond hope). Now NJ has nothing but contempt for him.
