Throwing one of the chairs, or your laptop, or whatever pointy things you may have in your rucksack/purse at the active shooter seems a much better strategy. It’s also what’s recommended in active shooter training if you can’t get the fuck outta Dodge. First and foremost, get the fuck outta Dodge. Second, hide if your primary directive can’t be achieved. Lastly, throw stuff, or flank and bludgeon if you can create opportunity to do so.

Guns are part of a fantasy of power and control over one’s life (that crime takes away). Unfortunate for everyone, it is a fantasy (which seems to be part of why owning a gun makes you more likely to be the victim of a violent crime - the overconfidence granted by the fantasy hitting the cold hard reality).
