Clinton apologizes after calling Trump's bigoted supporters "deplorable"

Can we agree to disagree then? I hope so.

Well, one Goldman speech was a keynote address from Clinton on the business case for empowering women to ensure future economic growth:

It’s a very odd assumption to think she’d be making promises to bankers in paid speeches. That’s not what they’re for.

On which part?

But sure… I’m happy to do that…

Yup.

They’re for collecting your paycheck. The corruption lies in what the politician does before and after the payoff, not during.

You know, I think that’s a really good point, actually. But I do think that the problem is not her making promises to bankers in some insidious secret speeches, but it’s more about them having access to her (or any politicians, really) in a way that the rest of us don’t. Access doesn’t necessarily mean politicians are going to do their bidding (all cabal like), but rather it means the bankers, etc, get a better chance to be heard by people who can actively shape public policy and they are more likely to be able to end up working in the public sector, in appointed positions (especially in areas of government where they can impact regulation policy, etc) because they are “experts” in their field.

Very much agreed. The speeches themselves are probably a mix of TED talks for bankers and rah-rah speeches that probably are embarrassing, but the content isn’t my gripe so so much as the associated access, connections, and influence the kind of wealthy/already connected people who pay for and attend TED talks for bankers (and other wealthy industrialists) get. Clinton’s a DLC Dem. That’s a real issue. I just found the expressed reason ridiculous.

More important is the point you’d mentioned earlier about prioritizing/equivocating concerns for a candidate being connected to Wall Street over a candidate running on a xenophobic platform that literally promises to persecute and harm millions of people in America. If I were in a swing state I could never accept the moral responsibility of voting Green and failing to do something in the face that far greater evil, even if I have to choose a lesser evil to do it. Between the bankers and Bull Connor, they’re both evil, but one’s worse.

Yup.

Is that Trump’s new slogan?

Which is why it’s important to vote for the crook (or, to clarify, to vote for the non-fascist crook).

But it’s also important to remember who and what you voted for after they’re in office. The fight ain’t over, even if Trumpy loses.
