There is certainly schadenfreude to watching these people bumble like that, but I’m not sure if you can ever get them to change just by pointing out their numerous false beliefs. I’m not even sure if you can get them to understand that these beliefs are false. They are defiantly people that once stopped to think, but never started again after that.

It’s never about getting them to change, but getting them to flop so badly that they scare off anyone toying with the idea of listening to them. Showing that they aren’t just a fringe you can dismiss, but the current heart and soul of the Republican Party. If you’re lucky, one or two of the kooks may go home to nurse their wounds and stop playing missionary, but don’t bank on it.

In other words… Get out while you can, moderates, or you too could end up like this!

That, I feel is the purpose behind scenes like this.

I don’t know; I’m an atheistic Pagan, but I strongly suspect that others who identify as Pagan are (mostly) a lot more relaxed about the practices and various beliefs. (Short version: I’m an atheist, but I find doing the occasional ritual gives me a nice centered feeling or a sense of closure, closeness to those around me, etc. I just don’t believe there’s anything beyond these things except my own serotonin and endorphins.)

Yes, absolutely! I didn’t intend that to be heard as “don’t waste your time on this,” just that I prefer the approach you’re describing. If I point out the problems with the statement of some TERF on the Internet, I’m not expecting the light will suddenly dawn for them, I’m trying to get those TERFlings out there to reconsider before they go down that path. Same thing here and I much appreciate these newscasters as well as groups like The Good Liars.

What’s your point? That book was Jefferson pulling the moral philosophy of Jesus out of the Bible, stripped of the magical religious faith based trappings. In other words, as I said, he thought that Jesus guy was a pretty cool dude who had some good ideas. What he didn’t believe was that Jesus was the literal offspring of God and also God himself who you had to acknowledge as your Lord and Savior if you wanted to go to Heaven. He was not what any modern evangelicals would recognize as an evangelical.
