Commemorative 2020 election chess set lacks two important pieces

People who aren’t good at math but who want to play chess.

Do any of them want to play me for money? Just asking…

If I’m going to play chess (I do at times) give me a Staunton set, at the very least a knock off of one. I loath sets that hurt my eyes and look weird at the same time.

Also, what happens if Biden gets to run?
Will the buyers get a free replacement rook?

There’s a special for Trump voters! The first piece only costs a penny, each piece after that costs twice as much as the one before it. Just one penny gets you started! Total bargain!

They couldn’t base the set on realty, because the Republican side would have Putin as the king and all the other Republican pieces would be pawns.

Maybe they took out insurance for that possibility? Or maybe it would cause the sets to become immediately valuable.

It says “You receive 2 pieces every other month. You pay for only one piece at a time. Only $17.50 a month.” So, you’re being billed every month, but they’re sending you product every other month. (I wonder what the marketing reason for this is?)

However… let’s not forget the $0.50 shipping and the sales tax, which takes it to more like $20 a month. So, it’s about $640 total, in 1984 dollars.

Accounting for inflation, the adjusted cost springs to a whopping $1,560 in 2018 US dollars. (Oh, you can get them used on eBay for $150.)

I was recently given a beautiful Xiangq set - otherwise known as Chinese chess - hand carried from Taiwan for Christmas. It’s similar to western chess but has different pieces and strategy. No queen (and Generals rather than Kings) for example and pieces move on the intersections rather than in the squares. once you get used the the nuance ifs a fun alternative to classic chess.
