The holiday is also the day before the 2022 general election. Does not seem coincidental.

Nothing says freedom like the government dictating curriculum to schools.

What if a parent invokes their “fundamental right … to make decisions regarding the upbringing and control of their children” to opt out of DeSantis’s “holiday”, to quote lines 73-75 of a certain piece of legislation that was recently in the news?

How ‘bout Feb. 23?

DiSantis has a lot in common with Che Guevara. They both relied heavily on Russian assistance.

The rules of this sub, and civility, almost certainly prohibit me from making comments about a common ending for both.

Which state will be the first to introduce a Victims of Conservatism Day and when will it be?

Continue to pretend socialism and communism are the same thing and if communism is bad so must be socialism

“Ok class. It’s November 7th and it’s time to learn about the Victims of Communism. In 1934 Stalin re-criminalized homosexuality. Wait, what? I can’t say that? But they were victims of communism. I’m so confused.”

“Positive attitudes are at an all time high in this country. But not here in Florida, because freedom, not Marxism, has a home here in the free state of Florida.”

I don’t understand this quote at all. It seems to say ‘American is happy, but we in Florida are Not happy, bc we like Freedom.’ This is the blubbering nonsense I expect from MTG.

I think the missing part of the quote is “Positive attitudes [about communism/socialism] are at an all time high…”

In other words: “If I mash these two things together I can continue to pretend they are the same and use the history of past communist nations - all run by brutal authoritarians - to treat them as horrible things, because some folks in this country have too positive a view of socialism; which, as I just noted, is EXACTLY the same thing as communism! Pay attention class!”

I love it when these clowns also try to conflate anti-capitalism with Stalinism or the Soviet model of production. When I explain Mutualism or even Syndicalism then some will say, “oh that’s actually good, are you sure you’re not a libertarian,” which is amusing to me if they didn’t know the actually historical origin of the term. :smiling_imp: Then there’s those who are the “fuck you, I got mine” rightists like one old friend from Second Life who I love to bits but he’s about as sharp as a bowling ball if he thinks IP law and the like is gonna actually protect him.

the bill was in line with efforts to remove critical race theory teachings and other “woke terms” in the classroom.

When they latch onto a word or phrase they really latch on. Yet they are the first ones to call everyone sheep.
