Yeah, can you imagine if, for example, Disney had entirely changed the look of their classic character Alice from Alice In Wonderland? I mean, if she wasn’t played by a young Virginia Davis people just wouldn’t be able to accept the character. A total reboot of that story that had been closely tied to Disney for decades surely would have been a huge critical and financial flop.

The Disney Alice is a straight rip of the Sir John Tenniel version from 1865.
The real Alice – the young girl she was sort of based on – had dark hair. There are photos of her.

Just in case it was unclear the point of my post was that there was more than one “Disney Alice.” Including the dark-haired one in the shorts that Disney made in the 1920’s who looked and dressed nothing like the later version.
