Klain said that the administration’s immediate goal will be to quickly get vaccines into the arms of Americans — increasing daily inoculations from a quarter million daily under Trump to roughly 1 million vaccinations daily under President Biden to reach the administration’s goal of 100 million vaccine shots in Biden’s first 100 days in office.
Got their work cut out for them. To reach 100 million in 100 days will mean the last weeks getting to a lot more than 1 million a day to make up what will be a bare minimum of a month struggling to get that quarter million in.

Big, audacious goals like this don’t always get delivered, but they give the people working towards them a star to guide. Even if they miss the 100 million mark they’ll have done significantly better than the previous admin, and that’s what we need right now.

But in happier news, I got to join this forum during my lunch break yesterday, and we are so lucky to have the state CDC leadership we have!

My 84-year-old father got scheduled for a shot on February 1: my mother, not yet eligible here, had just been checking appointments somewhat compulsively for a couple of weeks. I’ll be curious to see how they you about scheduling his follow-up, if they do at all.
A good reminder that 100 million shots in 100 days is still (if they’re doing it right) only ~50 million people properly vaccinated by May.

This has been ticking me off too. I’ve been trying the past 48 hours to get an covid shot appointment for my dad. Our most vulnerable are usually also the most computer illiterate.

“Sitting in front of a computer clicking refresh constantly in the hope of being the first to have access to Eventbrite when an event goes live,” another person tweeted. “That event? A possible COVID vaccination for my parents. That’s right. Florida is running it’s vaccine program through Eventbrite.”
In the absence of a national or statewide distribution plan, several counties in Florida used Eventbrite, an event scheduling and ticketing site, to distribute their limited number of vaccine doses on a first come, first served basis to eligible groups of people. This includes residents who are 65 and older.
At least three of the counties using Eventbrite for vaccine distribution – Pasco, Collier and Sarasota – have recently acknowledged scams on the platform.

My 92 yo mother is in an assisted living home in Florida. She got the first shot last week and is waiting for the second one. The living facility has been on lock-down, on and off, for months now. So far so good. No lottery or other crap, the facility management group arranged everything.

That’s good to hear. The assisted group home my mom used to work for had dozens of covid deaths there. Mostly the elderly with the exception of one employee death. It’s been a bit of an struggle but I managed to convince my father (who is a diabetic who also takes heart pills) to get a shot when it becomes available.
