In two years they will be claiming that Democrats opposed the bill. Here Martha McSally ran against two Democratic opponents claiming that they wanted to cut Medicare…while she had actually voted to do it.
By what metric?
I.e wait your turn and don’t skip ahead.
There is so much regional variation in prioritization that “your turn” really doesn’t make much sense anymore, at least not in the US.
(Of course, I don’t think that people should show up to appointment-only vaccination events without appointments except when the people in charge actively encourage it, as has apparently happened in some areas.)
I believe the arbitrary metric they are using is percentage of received doses distributed. NYT is also using that metric as their yardstick but it clearly favors smaller states that have received fewer doses.
Not surprising, but the data is still there:
Whenever this is pointed out, the whining about the evils of politicizing begins (from the folks who have politicized the pandemic since it began).
Well that sucks.
I believe I said back last Spring that this pandemic would result in an explosion of research and increased knowledge of viral illness in general. Here it comes, recognition that covid is not in fact unique, lots of other viruses do the same thing but there was no interest in documenting it.
Now I feel even worse for people who’ve probably been complaining about symptoms for years, and not getting enough help.
Then the boast should have been, “almost as efficient as North Dakota”
So it may be percentage of people given at least one shot, also this could be different since I got the e-mail last Friday:
Percent of people
Name Given at least one shot Fully vaccinated Doses delivered Shots given Doses used
U.S. total* 19% 9.9% 127,869,155 95,721,290 75%
Palau 31% 18% 14,800 8,586 58%
American Samoa 31% 18% 43,210 23,696 55%
New Mexico 26% 15% 988,615 840,633 85%
Connecticut 26% 9.9% 1,558,445 1,272,581 82%
Of course, that’s an even sillier metric, as it depends on the number of doses the state has received, which is not linear in the population of the state.
There are any number of reasons that state health departments probably shouldn’t be including political boasts in their instructions to citizens.
In No Shit Sherlock news today
Also Austria and a couple of other countries. According to this article, the number of blood clots among people who have had the vaccine is far below the number you would statistically expect from a sample of that size; shouldn’t they now be examining the vaccine as a possible cure for clotting?
I suspect it was in part to encourage patience. “Stay in line; it’s moving pretty fast.”
I can think of two other countries that are major threats to public health because of the pandemic. And it’s not the Bolsonaro variant I’m worried about here…
Update:
What the fuck is wrong with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.?
