Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 3)

They usually get a shiny new marketing name when they are approved but the drug name (in this case molnupiravir) is based on drug class, structure and function.

They’re against everything in “government” except cops and the military … so whenever it’s time to do anything they suddenly want martial law and a police state

Ohh he’s just sad for day traders getting hammered every time somebody yells Omicron, Pegasus, Shapeshifter or whatever the next scary version of the virus is named.

Somebody needs to remind him that the rich got even richer over the past two years and the frothing will dissipate.

I assumed it was similar to race horse naming conventions, like the father was named molnudryl and the mother was named piravirtine. Voila: Molnupiravir!

That’s not as far off as it sounds, if you consider drug class as “family.”

Does allowing generics for low- and middle-income countries count for half?

well if it were a generic, it’d be one of these two people:

But those two people still use a mostly codified process to come up with the name based on the class, structure and function. It’s not like they just decide to call this new drug “Mildred.”

Thanks for the handy article!

I love Marina Hyde. She nearly gets to say here, but doesn’t make it explicit enough for me, that if this were WWII then the Harry Limes killing children to make a buck on medicines, tax free old man, the only way to save, the black market spivs making bank while others are dying fighting Nazis, did you have a good war? Are the FUCKING TORIES IN POWER.

Prevent Senior admits to its associates that ‘Covid kit’ distributed to patients was ineffective.

A Brazilian private health care operator, complied with the Prosecution Office and admitted that they had no authorization for researching and that medicines they gave to patients do not have effect against Covid-19. A document signed with the Prosecution Office also provides that the health care company will suspend the distribution of medications that are part of the so called Covid Kit, a cocktail of drugs such as Ivermecticn, Hydroxicholoroquine among other, that some people claimed could cure the disease.

According to the GloboNews, a Brazilian cable tv news channel, The Prevent Senior concealed deaths of patients who, inadvertently, took part in an alleged study conducted to test the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine, associated with azithromycin, to treat Covid-19. The company is at the center of one of the biggest medical scandals in the country’s history, as some doctors and former doctors accused the company, in accordance with the federal government, to test and disseminate ‘Covid kit’ .

Here’s a pretty interesting read. I recall reading a story, but can’t find it right now, on why we’re seeing more X, Y and Z, and less vowels. I think the likely cause was running out of names due to the huge number of drug names required.

“ Later in the evening, a report by Channel 12 said the Pfizer vaccine is just slightly less effective in preventing infection with Omicron than with Delta – 90% as opposed to 95% – while it is as effective – around 93% – in preventing serious symptoms at least for those vaccinated with a booster.

According to the report, the ability of the variant to infect is higher than Delta but not as much as feared – around 1.3 times higher.”

Early data, and I always say do not hang your hat on one study, but that is slightly encouraging. We shall see how further data stack up.

Still, I’m glad he’s willing to be the bad guy for the batshit insane part of the electorate, unlike certain current governments…

It’s really unclear where these percentages are coming from given that there were only four confirmed cases of the new variant in Israel. From the article:

Just listened to yesterday’s special episode of the great (German) Das Coronavirus-Update podcast on Omicron.

Gist: WDKS. Stay alert, but don’t panic.

Some details, summarised, for your favourite babelfish software:

One central bit:
“The vaccine manufacturers are already working on adapting the vaccines, should it become necessary, says Ciesek: “That would be relatively quick and straightforward.” In addition, Omikron only shows one mutation at the points of attack of the recently developed drugs Molnupiravir and Paxlovid, which would probably continue to work.”

Not in this summary: her opinion on the inconclusive data in regard to transmission rate. There are several possible alternative explanations to why the Omicron strain is apparently already prevalent in RSA, and higher transmissibility or higher infectiousness of the the virus itself is just one part of them.
