This needs to be treated as attempted murder. Because it is.

I just saw this statistic, and I thought that the US was pretty week at widespread sequencing.

In early May, Delta accounted for fewer than 3 percent of cases nationwide, according to the CDC; by late July, that figure had rocketed up to 83 percent.

Have we caught up, by and large, or is my salt intake appropriate? Or to put it another way, if I popped positive, what are the odds that my sample would be sequenced?

“ Driving the news: The study, conducted by nference and the Mayo Clinic, compared the effectiveness of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in the Mayo Clinic Health System over time from January to July.

  • Overall, it found that the Moderna vaccine was 86% effective against infection over the study period, and Pfizer’s was 76%. Moderna’s vaccine was 92% effective against hospitalization and Pfizer’s was 85%.
  • But the vaccines’ effectiveness against infection dropped sharply in July, when the Delta variant’s prevalence in Minnesota had risen to over 70%.
  • Moderna was 76% effective against infection, and Pfizer was only 42% effective.”

IANAL, but

Under German law, every single dose of salt water instead of the vaccine might count as a Straftat. This could be Körperverletzung (bodly harm), on every individual. Other criminal offenses aside, it will be interesting to see which paragraphs apply. GefĂ€hrliche Körperverletzung might apply for everyone who got the wrong shot on purpose, and Schwere Körperverletzung might apply in cases where someone actually got Covid-19. But there are strong legal caveats, like: did the person administering the shot swap the content? Did the person swapping the contents want to cause bodily harm? Was this someone working alone, or did the person even conspire? Every detail must be established without a reasonable doubt before this can have severe consequences, but I think there will be severe consequences. See above: Every. Individual. Syringe. Everyone who had NaCl administered could press legal action, I think. [ETA: but would possibly have to prove they were among those who got NaCl, which is going to be difficult. As the article mentions
]

However: the legal framework is not fit for this, really. (Sidenote: I do not see the person going to be treated as a terrorist - which maybe perhaps eventually could also be argued.)

This sucks. I just hope noone died, or will die.

Everything I always say about one study and caution interpreting, but holy shit! if this is real. This would change everything. Which is a very good reason to see if it is borne out by other studies. This is the first time I have seen numbers like this.

ETA: But I am glad I got Moderna! Just in case it is real.

As a HCW seeing this, here is what comes to mind:

Him: “Please! We need help putting out this fire! The need is severe!”
Me: “Well, for starters, it would help if you stopped flinging lit matches all over
”
Him: “Fuck you! You can’t tell me what to do!”

I’m sure that their whining won’t include them getting their heads around the fact that “aid” sent abroad always comes with conditions. Often onerous ones.

I wonder how many people are already taking matters into their own hands on the additional booster shot question. I would imagine that slipping through the extremely fine cracks in such a well engineered and tightly implemented vaccination tracking system would be difficult, but I’m sure a few have already managed.

Wow, you really need the (/s) on this one. I almost spewed on the company computer!

(I’m saddened to hear a doctor refer to a “company computer.” Reminds me of public university administrators referring to students as “customers.” :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:)
