I wish you a speedy recovery, ficus!
Testing finally put me out of my misery. Popped a strong positive. This time it barely took two minutes before both lines turned dark purple when normally itâs some 10 minutes before C gets that dark. Sigh.
Donât beat yourself up. I did have the one specific moment that even at the time I knew âuh-oh, this is itâ â no other possibility that week â and it was when I was walking outside without my mask on for two whole blocks â with my mask around my wrist ready to put back on â but had to stop at a light, and the guy right in front of me coughed ONCE.
And thatâs with 2 boosters. The current variant is nearly as contagious as measles, the single most contagious human disease ever.
At this point, all of my closest friends, who like you and me have been extremely diligent for 2 1/2 years, have gotten it for the first time in the last 2 months.
ETA: My timeline for at-home testing was exactly the same. I was horribly sick for at least 8 hours before the test finally showed up positive, and like you, when it showed up positive it was barely 2 minutes and already darker than the control line.
In the last 2 weeks, every covid test i have sent has been positive. 100%. Now, itâs nowhere nesr a big enough sample for significance, but school starts tomorrow, with no masking, testing or quarantine requirements in place. Itâs gonna be ugly.
I have seen R0 of as high as 18 for BA5. That would edge out measles, but at that point it doesnât really matter. Just waiting to see itâs next trick. Bastard is good, Iâll give it that.
On the upside I really havenât had a temperature as of yet. The chills have since been replaced with me feeling boiling hot. I also actually feel slightly better now than I did around the same time last night and a lot of the congestion had gone away, so maybe this is all a good sign.
But these CDC guidelines are just WTF⌠i think they are saying to isolate for 5 days and then with improving symptoms and no temperature I can mean quarantine? Itâs all clear as mud.
Still wear a mask when youâre around others after the 5th day through the 10th â which means no eating in public â but yeah, thatâs what theyâre saying now. If you still have symptoms, then quarantine for the whole 10 days.
It was 72 hours of being truly very sick, and then â poof! â it was over for me. Letâs hope youâre getting to the same stage as well.
Yup thatâs no problem. I always wear a mask when Iâm out and I rarely ever eat out anymore.
I hope so! I guess weâll see tomorrow. I think just being able to get a good nightâs sleep will work wonders.
I know someone who had severe symptoms on a Thursday, back to work in a small office on Monday. That may be within the guidelines, I donât know.
I tried understanding the CDC guidelines but it is confusing.
I understand a lot of people canât go without a paycheck for 10 days or 5 days or even one day and thatâs not helpful either.
No clue if this is good or bad, but I will bet that if the damned virus thinks it is good, it ainât.
In a hopefully more positive, and personal-scale news, I got my second booster shot today.
As far as I know, I havenât had Covid-19 yet, though the possibility of a false negative on a home test is always there.
So sorry to hear. I hope youâre feeling better soon!
Are you eligible for paxlovid?
It looks like I may meet one or two eligibility criteria, but Iâm not sure if itâs worth it or if I should just try to ride it out. I guess I can always wait another day or two and see how I feel then. It will still be well within the 5 day period.
Paxlovid is a lot like Tamiflu. A not-great drug, but when there is nothing else, you go with what you got. Theoretically, you have to be at high risk of hospitalization or death, but exactly what that means is left to the docs to determine. so, yeah,
Then thereâs the whole rebound thing. Jill Biden just tested positive for a rebound case today, as her husband and Dr. Fauci both had earlier. It seems to me that if your goal is to clear the virus from your system ASAP and youâre not in a higher risk group, maybe skipping paxlovid makes sense.
Or theyâre not on it long enough?
Presumably all those folks were at least initially following the FDAâs approved dosage regimen. Although I know that Fauci eventually took a second round of it, which is contrary to the FDAâs recommendations.
I am in a couple of higher risk groups, and my doctor agreed with you: as she knew I was staying a mere 2 blocks from the top hospital in the city, she felt it was better for my long term health to take the chance than have me fighting it for longer, in two stages.
